posted this info in the deals sticky, but it deserves its own thread.

rumor is that the elite as a system will be nixed. only to come back as a VERY limited edition. if you think about it though its really just a big HDD.

I just picked up a RE5 bundle. TBH, I'm still glad I got that vs. this one. Aside from the two games, there isn't anything setting it aside from any other elite. Even the box looks the same!

The Elite isn't competitive in the current economic environment at its present price point.

I own both games so the Kung Fu Panda/Lego Indy bundle is better for me!

if i remember that is exactly why the $400 elite is being discontinued. not practical. hopefully this means a price drop on all the HDD. maybe just up and support external drives

What I find odd is that with the ability to install games to the HDD, I would expect people to care more about larger HDD's. I considered a pro or arcade, but spending an extra $130 for a 120 gig hdd wasn't very appealing to me. Plus the Elite looks different. Other than that, I would agree that most people will just pick up an Arcade and go for the HDD...

Ehh.. colour me un-impressed. Its a okay deal at best for someone new to the Xbox platform. But for those of us already gaming.. Many people wouldnt play Fable 2 even if it was free, its just not a popular game type. Fable fans seem to be a little different than you average gamer, as RPG fans are ingeneral. Halo3 has sold over 9 million copies since Fall 2007, so Id guess most people who wanted to play already have owned/played it also.

I actually think the Dell coupon deals on the Elite are a much better deal.. something like a new Elite shipped for $327. Or even the occasional $50 giftcard from BestBuy, Walmart, Target, etc. This Elite bundle from MS, sounds like just a promotion to push overpriced software & hardware that isnt selling at a good pace in this economy.

I think the next big things for the 360 will be more integrated memory for the arcade (possibly 1 gig built onboard). At $400 the current Elite is fading out, and the Pro has a good chance to get its 120gig harddrive rather than recieve a $50 pricecut.

At that point pretty much everyone is pleased, because 120gigs of storage is more than enuff to do everything you want it to do.. considering the copyright restrictions on the MS HDD's. And MS really isnt losing much money by switching from a 60gig to 120gig HDD. The difference at a wholesale level is probably $5 per harddrive.

I dont expect much, in anymore, hardware changes & improvements to whats available now. A larger hdd is a possibility that could be offered ala' carte (something like 320gigs for $199). That would be please the hardest of the hardcore and keep the fire lit with the PS3 HDD battle.

But as it stands the 360 is just a few months from its 4th full year.. you would think sometime in its 5th year (2010) a successor would have be named or atleast been talked about in prototype form. Maybe even some confirmed specs & next gen expectations. Remember it takes 18 to 24months to develop & test a new console. That would put the next Xbox aka 720.. on schedule for a 2011-2012 release.

Fable 2 has sold somewhere between 2.5 to 2.8 million copies....making it a popular game.

Johnsteph its still RPG based.. Fable is hugely popular with the Fable/RPG crowd. Beyond that many people just dont care. L

ooked at what the shooters and racers sell on the 360. And as I said before.. many people just arent that interested in those genre of games.
