I'm very excited to say my theater project is getting close... I have hung the screen and the seats are in. Some painting has been done, too.

Next steps are to build a riser for the back row with matching carpeting (would appreciate any links or threads about doing this) - it would have to be very long since there are wedges in between each seat, I measured probably 134" x 80" or so for the riser... and to finish up with movie artwork and painting around the room.

(coming soon... pics of the rest of the room and more details)

I chose to go with a 16:9 screen due to the fact that I watch a lot of chinese and japanese movies with subs and play a lot of video games in the room.

I'm looking for a better solution for dvd and blu ray storage... I like the look of wooden bookcase style storage, possibly with glass doors... I am currently using something like this from IKEA but the shelving peg locations don't maximize the space for media very well. It's stored along the back wall which doesn't show in these initial pics.

- Panasonic AE3000 Projector
- WilsonArt DIY 16:9 DW screen 120"
- PS3 - Wii - Media PC w/ wireless keyboard and mouse
- Yamaha receiver
- Energy Subwoofer
- Klipsch bookshelf speakers, surrounds, center
- HDMI Switch ( with world's brightest LEDs... :/ )
- FIOS box
- Hori Real Arcade Pro 3 joystick with Sanwa button replacements
- 6 leather recliner seats, wedges w/cupholders and trays
- Leather trunk full of blankets and extra controllers, etc

Looks great!! Have you watched any movies on it yet? :) Does the wall change color mid way there, or just not painted yet? I'm looking for a better blu ray storage too as I've now outgrown my little one.

If the left and right speakers are on swivel type mounts, you might want to try to toe them in a bit towards the seats and see how you like it.

Looks wonderful. I myself will be building my diy wilsonart dw screen very soon. do you by any chance have picture how did you build your screen? If not can you provide a description how did you build the frame (how do you connect all the pieces) and attach the laminate sheet to the frame?

thanks

What color paint is that up front/ceiling? I like how you finished off the front sides with a darker color. It looks like near black but not quite. I imagine that it has a little more resistance to showing finger prints and scuffs which is a good thing.

Thanks for the comments. The gray paint is a color called High Speed Steel (valspar, lowes) and we are very happy with it. I do have some roller marks that are visible on the ceiling, due to the way light reflects off the ceiling. Guess my technique could have been better. However this is nitpicking... the reaction when people enter the room is definitely a good one.

@shawnwalters - the white areas are unpainted or "builder" paint... we plan to finish the whole basement with a warmer linen color. However the prospect of painting the whole basement is daunting to me... there is a LOT of space down there, off to the left in the photo, it's a large space. The theater is sort of in a "nook" as you turn around a wall and see it.

From the start, we wanted a very clean and simple look. I would love to get the A/V stuff hidden somewhere but not sure what the best way to do that is. I don't have the skill to start framing or cutting drywall and I don't really want to get into something where standard IR remotes won't work any more due to the fact that I am using a logitech universal and an hdmi switch remote. Everyone has a point at which they are satisfied, and I think we are nearing it. Maybe someday we will go further and change the way the a/v is stored. I love the look of the racks built into the wall, with the face plates covering up flush with the wall that I have seen some people build here. However, that seems very complicated and expensive.
