asking this for a friend. we're both stuck and don't know what to do.

He has the "poor man's version" of xbox360...the one without HDMI out port.

He wants to play on his 22" ViewSonic LCD with native resolution of 1680x1050. The LCD monitor has DVI and VGA input options.

Basically, he asked for help and my plan was to get this component to VGA cable from Monoprice:

along with this male-to-female gender changer:

Then...after reading some more I saw on Monoprice page:

IT WILL NOT ALLOW YOU TO CONNECT YOUR COMPONENT VIDEO SOURCES TO A REGULAR COMPUTER MONITOR OR HDTV unless you monitor specifically has this capability. Most do not. (Please check the documentation for your computer monitor)

Obviously I've gone over monitor manual and it says nothing about that subject.

Any of you folks know of manageable way to play Xbox360 on LCD monitor?
Thanks

Xbox 360 VGA cable. :) Direct VGA is supported out of the Xbox, and they even added 1680x1050 as a resolution option last I checked.

in short. component will not work on VGA

xbox supports VGA and that resolution with a $40 cable

the newer models have an HDMI port, HDMI=DVI-Audio
