It doesn't seem like DVDo supports 1024x768, but they seem to rate well for SD material. I found a Kramer VP-728 that uses silicon optix HQV and supports the res, however I've never heard anyone here talk about Kramer. I would like to get something under $1000 if possible, edge pricing prefferably. Also, anchor bay would be a plus. What ever happened to that Geffen TV scaler pro?

The Edge has XGA output, why bother with anything else ?

After reading about XGA, I'm still a little confused. Is there a difference between XGA and XGA wide? I have a 42'' Plasma that displays 1024x768, and im interested in acheiving 1:1 pixel bit mapping from my Dish net HD box, HD DVD, and PS3. Am I correct to assume that when I set the output resolution on these sources(to 720p) they are all outputting 1280x720? Also, with no outboard VP at all currently, should i set the players/sat box to output 720p or am I correct to believe that my plasma still has to process that signal anyway?

Thanks

On a XGA display 720p is fine. The signal needs to be rescaled in both the horizontal and the vertical dimension, but at least the display won't have to do any deinterlacing. There are 4:3 displays with XGA and there are widescreen displays with XGA, so in addition to the resolution you have to tell your videoprocessor the aspect ratio of your screen.

But more important: not many XGA plasmas will accept their native resolution via HDMI. You better check with a PC or notebook first.

+1

This is key. It's really hard to get 1:1 pixel mapping if the display will not accept that resolution in the first place.
