Hi there,
I have a question. I have a Yamaha YSP4000. I have a DTS Demo DVD that has the X men2 plane attack scene. The demo DVD always sounded great as it is the 1.5 mps full bit rate. It was always a demo scene for me. Today I picked up the Blu Ray Xmen 2. The Yamaha will only get 1.5 core of the DTS MA.. Yet .. it sounded better to me than the DTS demo disc. I went back and forth a few times, and it really did sound better. I don't think it was my ears playing tricks on me. How could that be. Shouldnt that scene be audio wise 100% IDENTICAL?

No-they don't have to. They may have been done from different mix and also recent DTS Master Audio Suite has the best DTS (core) encoder. DVD version has been done with different DTS encoder and because DTS is lossy you can have better or worse implementation of it (like with video encoders). Most likely it's a different mix.

By the way... What exactly would that mean that they are both 1.5 Mbps of the same scene, yet the Blu Ray Core sounds better than the 1.5mbps DVD. Is it that because it is newer( the DTS program used) that it will sound somewhat "clearer, richer, cleaner..closer to the uncompressed master?

The demo disc was mixed for its limitations, the BRD is bieng downmixed by the player

Neither of those statements is true.

Yes.

"Old" DTS is constant bitrate, so it's always 1.5Mbit (or 0.8Mbit in lower mode).
I would say it's more likely different mix- it can be also because of the better encoding software, but this difference shouldn't be so audible.
