Yo people!

First post here :-)

I'm looking for a professional grade (consumer would suffice) High-Def video recorder than can burn either Blu-ray or DVD. Anyone have anything in mind? Thanks in advance for any help.

P.S. I'm looking for set-top box type and/or rack mountable

No such devices are available at the consumer level in the USA. I'm not positive about professional-grade devices, but I'm sure that if any existed, they would have been mentioned here at least occasionally, and I don't remember seeing any such thing.

The only solution I know of so far is a computer with a Blu-ray burner and some kind of HD input device. There are some USB HDTV tuners with recording software (I use one on a Mac), and at least one USB device (Hauppauge HD PVR) that can record HD to a computer via component-video input.

See the TiVo HD FAQ (http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?p=11126048#post11126048). Once you put the TiVo HD on your home network you can transfer HD recordings to your PC. Using Video ReDo you can edit and author and burn to either Blu-Ray or standard DVD-R in HD format.

I work for a company that installs A/V systems and have a project where HD-video is present and needed a way to store and burn as a set-top box. Oh well, thanks anyway.

I have a Dish Network HD DVR set top box (622). I use it to record HD satellite and HD OTA shows. I have it connected to a DVD burner via its s-video output. This allows me to record the HD in widscreen with near commercial DVD quality. Since the DVD burner only has stereo inputs I can not record 5.1 sound however. Also this setup requires you to play back the show you are recording and record it, so a 2 hour show takes 2 hours to save.
