So I am trying to get decent advice on a sub for my home theater setup.

This will be going in my living room, and as you can see in my drawing above, there's not much room for a sub in the room. It can't go behind the recliners because the recliners would end up hitting the sub, and it can't go on the right side of the entertainment center because it opens up into a hallways leading to 2 other bedrooms.

unfortunately the only spot I can put the sub is in the left corner :(
Althought this isn't ideal, it will be better than nothing.

My 2 towers are Klipsch rf-62's, with an rc-52 center channel speaker. I also have 2 entry level bipolar rears from def tech. I am powering this with a Yamaha v663 (95w x 7).

I got the paradigm ps-1000 used about 2 weeks ago, thinking it would fit w/ the new entertainment center... well it didn't, however it was a good HT sub, not so much music.

I than decided to go with the Klipsch sub 10, which once again is great for HT, not so much music.

I got a good offer on the velodyne impact 12, and returned the klipsch 10 for the impact 12, I really enjoy the sub for music.... but HT wise it is pretty bad (for my room atleast)

My room is not closed off, it opens up into the kitchen family room. My guess it total, about 1200 - 1400 square feet. However, the area we will be listening in is what is shown in the Sketch.

My budget is just about 300 dollars. Keep in mind I have the paradigm ps-1000 which I may be able to sell, and thus add to the budget.

At this time, I am looking at the Klipsch rw-12d. I can currently get this sub for $280. I am thinking this would be pretty hard to beat, but I don't know. I do enjoy a somewhat boomy bass for HT, but I also enjoy a nice music sub. (I listen to alternative/indie/hardcore rock, the wife also enjoys jazz)

I'd say about 20% music, the rest tv/HT.

Thanks alot guys, please let me know any suggestions you may have.

With you being disappointed with the last subs you got are you sure they were setup correctly? You can run hot with ht and not sound that bad, but listening got with music will make the sound seem muddy.
Try the klipsch out and see if you like it for movies. That's a good deal on it anyway.

yes, they were set up properly. Like I said the Klipsch and the Paradigm were great for movies. It was the Velodyne that couldn't hang w/ my Klipsch towers for movies, But it was good for music.

For that budget...nothing comes to my mind that can be a significant upgrade....

well considering the velodyne was a significant downgrade from the Klipsch 10, I would think that the rw-12d for that price would actually be a nice upgrade? I'm not bashing velodyne, It's just that subwoofer for a room as large as mine was a bad mix.

Probably a bit better...
If you want a more musical sub then you can buy an HSU VTF-1, which will be more musical than the klipsch...

Well the Klipsch does seem to be a bit more powerful and you're getting a damn good price. Personally, I've never liked Klipsch subs all that much as they seem a bit flat (not in the good way!) and soft. However I'll admit I have not auditioned their higher end ones like the rw-12d.

I have a BIC V1020 (10" down firing side-ported, 160W RMS) in my left corner in my living room (which opens up on the opposite side to the kitchen\dining room w/ tile floor, seating and TV is inbetween that left side wall and the kitchen area) and it does a wonderful jub filling up the viewing area with full yet accurate and clear bass. I love it. And for $80 off craigslist (retails for $150) I couldn't be happier with it for my humble little setup (first home = first home theater right?!)

I'm not looking for a musical sub. I'm looking for a HT sub that rocks my house, that is also decent for music. I was told by Curt at Velodyne that My speakers run at 94db as opposed to the normal 89 (or something in that area) and because of that, subs like the velodyne that I got are not very good matches for Klipsch... and that was before he went on to bash my speakers, than my job, confirming that I will never buy a velodyne product agian, but that's beyond the point.

As I said, I like the Klipsch sub 10, so I'm pretty positive I'll enjoy this sub. I would like something better, but I'm almost afraid to take the risk.

It's hard to have other people review products. Alot of people think B&W is awesome, when I think there a bland. It's all opinion, thanks for the input guys

You need a smaller ent center....chop off two feet and put a sub in there.

If you want more output than that Klipsch ou will have to raise your budget...
A Vtf3 or VTF2.3 will rock your world...

Not to pry, but what exactly did they say about your speakers, and your job?

Seems silly for a customer rep to do something like this, knowing it will not help their image in the eye of the consumer.

I'm necesarrily looking for something better. I just want to make sure I'm getting a good solution for a good price. Not really looking to spend more.

Well...In that price range you are looking...All previous mentioned subs will be similar....

well lets see. After hearing I work at best buy he said "no wonder you're on a budget" and kind of laughed. Not pausing before he said "if you sell HT you should've known better, you need to up your budget to get what you're looking for...". Which is funny considering the Klipsch sub 10 I got for cheaper, as well as the paradigm I got for cheaper both blow this velodyne out of the water.

He also didn't hesitate to tell me how much he dislikes klipsch, and all of there products, including the speakers I have. Oh, and this doesn't bother me, but he also made a comment about subwoofer reviewers/consumers saying "they don't know what they're talking about, if some of these people went to college they'd know better... etc.". Ya, as if someone writing for audio magazines didn't go to college.
