Did a search but didn't find an answer.
Can someone tell me in simple-to-follow steps how to import a video from a Canon HF100 I recorded into iMovie?
I just bought a Macbook and want to edit some clips in iMovie, but can't seem to import anything.
iMovie will recognize the HF100 and it shows up, but none of the movies.
2 questions:
1. How do I import movies?
2. Can I import movies into iMovie that are saved on my PC?
Nobody on the Mac forums knew the answer.
Hi trolle
For question 1, connect your HF100 to your mac and bring up iMovie (I assume you have an Intel based mac with iMovie '08 or newer). Turn on the camcorder and iMovie should automatically come up with a new window showing all the clips from your cam. You can then import all or selected clips using the check boxes.
If no new window comes up, go to the iMovie menu and select File > Import from Camera. Another way is if you have a card reader, hook it up to the mac and insert your SDHC card. With iMovie open, it should come up with the new window with all clips showing as mentioned above.
Igs269,
Thanks for the answer. My Hf100 was visible in iMovie, but none of my movies were available for download.
I saved them to an external HDD and then did a full initialization of the SD card again.
I did a test video. Plugged my Hf100 back into the Macbook and the video automatically downloaded.
So, I can download to iMovie now.
The next question is:
How do I import previously recorded clips into iMovie?
I plugged in my external HDD and found the previously recorded movies. iMovie will not import these.
I copied a previous video file to the SD card, but iMovie would not recognize that either.
Anyone know how to import previously recorded video into iMovie?

You don't. Apple won't let you.
You might be a digital hd camcorder user that took some avchd videos on your Canon, Panasonic, Sony or JVC camera and you want to transfer and open them in some sort of video editing program like iMovie or Final Cut Pro; then put your shot videos on your portable iPhone, Apple TV, iPod, PSP, Blackberry, etc. Now, doremisoft Mac AVCHD Video Converter is such a software FOR A MAC that can convert completely and full hd videos on varous media players.
