View Full Version : Amazon Xbox Live Points Deal
Not the best deal ever, but better than a sharp stick in the eye:
buy 4000 pts code (http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-360-Live-4000-Points-Online/dp/B001V7QIDY), get $10 credit in amazon's xbox live store
buy 1600 pts code (http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-360-Live-1600-Points-Online/dp/B001V7QIDO), get $5 credit in amazon's xbox live store
I got the 4000 pts and it gives you the code right away. Pasted that into xbox.com and had the points in about a minute.
When I get the $10 credit, I'm going to try to use it as partial payment on 1600pts and get $5 more credit. Not sure if it will work since it says limit 1 per household.
DerekinMerrick 04-24-09, 05:46 PM What? I dont see any of this?
Make sure you are shopping for the Codes instead of the Cards. Try the links in the OP.
Lord Flatus 04-24-09, 07:03 PM I did this the other night so I could download the R.E.O./Styx pack. Works great. Pull up Amazon, buy and copy code, pull up xbox.com and paste....done!
DerekinMerrick 04-25-09, 01:33 AM yeah where are my 5$ in extra points. I bought it too and dont see it
DerekinMerrick 04-25-09, 01:48 AM I have the 1600 points added on... Now I see nothing about 5 dollars. Where would I find it?
formulanerd 04-25-09, 02:26 AM did you use the $10 credit to buy the 1600pt card? you may not get the $5 credit if you didnt pay full price for the 1600pt card.
NoThru22 04-25-09, 09:41 AM I want confirmation that you can get each credit if you buy both cards.
How is this not a great deal? If they had 4000 point cards for $40 or 1600 point cards for $15, people would say it's a great deal.
The credit is not in the form of extra points. After you get the e-mail that you have the credit (it took about six hours for me) then you can go back and buy something in the store and it will take the credit off your total. I bought 4000 points and then Ticket to Ride (on the Amazon store) and it said "$10 - $10 credit = $0 here's your code!"
>>How is this not a great deal?
It is pretty good, but my last points purchase was 40% off at CC closing.
DerekinMerrick 04-25-09, 11:23 AM Yeah I got it from the 1600 points. It just took a little while. They email you a code. The you buy a game and get another code paste it on xbox.com and its all good.
Thanks
sirjonsnow 04-25-09, 11:36 AM Did this end yesterday, I don't see anything in the links about any deal. Too bad, since I actually did have to buy some points yesterday.

Both 1600 and 4000 points pages have a blurb below the price that mention the promotion. It's active until 5/2.

jbsimm2 04-27-09, 10:26 AM Amazon charges me tax for the codes, but if I go into someplace like Gamestop, I don't have to pay tax. weird.
DerekinMerrick 04-27-09, 11:16 AM That is weird and bs. Charged me too. Hate the amazon tax now!!
hmmmm.... no sales tax for me (CA).
i was able to use the $10 credit from the 4000 pts to buy a 1600 pts code. So my $60 got me 5600 pts plus a $5 credit for next time.

You got the second credit? They say "1 credit per household" and I thought that meant either 1 $10 credit or 1 $5 credit.
I better hurry up and cash in my $10 credit for a 1600 point card.
NoThru22 04-27-09, 12:50 PM ileff, can you please confirm that you received the second credit for $5? Thank you.
gringer 04-27-09, 01:40 PM Nice Deal! http://www.*****************/trafficreport/img/3721/k08t1221bbuq/gdsmile.gif

update 4/28: nope, still no 2nd $5 credit, so I guess not. i'm still happy with 5600 pts for $60, i had just ran out of pts.

Weird, looks like they do on some links and not on others.
Here's the promotion details: http://www.amazon.com/gp/feature.html/ref=amb_link_84186951_2?ie=UTF8&docId=1000367351&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_s=hero-quick-promo&pf_rd_r=03P2599FZJCDH29B7X56&pf_rd_t=201&pf_rd_p=475487491&pf_rd_i=B001V7QIDY
Union0015 04-27-09, 11:53 PM FYI, followed the OP's links and the deal worked perfectly for me. Got my Live Points code directly on the Amazon screen after ordered, and got an e-mail from Amazon saying $10 would be taken off any order on the XBL Amazon store during checkout (until June 30th).
Nice Deal! http://www.*****************/trafficreport/img/3721/k08t1221bbuq/gdsmile.gif

Ewww...If Amazon started charging me tax I would no longer shop with them. I guess it depends on what state you are in.

Technically you have to pay tax on all your purchases whether on not Amazon charges it if you live in a state that has a sales tax. You're supposed to declare it when you file at the end of the year. I can't guarantee that every state is that way, but my state is.
Of course, no one does that, so states go after online retailers and force them to charge sales tax.
Additionally, if you live in a state where Amazon has a physical presence, then you have to pay sales tax because you're buying from an in-state merchant, not the magical land of the interwebs. Those states are: Kansas, Kentucky, New York, North Dakota, or Washington.
Anyway, the moral of the story is that it's not Amazon's decision as to whether you pay taxes on your purchases.
NoThru22 04-28-09, 10:52 PM There is also an Amazon warehouse in PA.

This is why I technically live in Delaware. ;)
