FWIW...

A lot of us who have to use long runs of HDMI cable wonder how long we can get away with, without picture problems. In my current Home Theater reno my source equipment will be in a different room than my projector, necessitating long HDMI runs. I'm wiring for two different locations just in case - ceiling mounted and floor (in a cabinet) mounted.

I ordered various lengths to test with my equipment: 45', 50', 60'.
Preliminary tests hooking my new JVC RS20 projector up to my Panasonic BP35 Blu Ray player are positive. 1080/24p signals seem to be passing just fine on all the cables. (Good do know before these things go in the walls).

Of course different equipment can render different results, but I'm just adding a bit of real-world experience for those who are interested.

Rich,

I work for a company that makes chips for long distance HDMI links. At work I tested a 55m (180ft) Belden bonded-pair cable and had flawless results using a receive equalizer at 1080p 60Hz. If you run into any problems remember that you can always add a receive equalizer (sometimes inappropriately called a repeater).

Rich,
Make sure you test 1080p60, higher bandwidth requirements than 1080p24.

Thank you very much for the info, Oh FibreOptical One!

That does put me at ease should I need to use an equalizer at some point.

PooperScooper,

Yes that was on my list. A while back I received my Denon video processor which I believe will output 1080p60. I've never used a VP so it may be a learning curve for getting to that testing point. BTW, might I be able to set my Blu Ray player to 1080p60? Or is that the realm of video processors?

1080p60 output has been around for a while in SD and HD/BD players. Just about all HD players output 1080p60 (fewer displays accept 1080p24 than 1080p60) and many SD DVD players output 1080p60 now.

What blueray player do you have? You should be able to set it to 1080p60 no problem. Or use a 1080p60 video disc, like a concert disc.

Remember, the ONLY failproof HDMI solution is large conduit.
