thanks to B-RAD, Foofighter, Fonz and a few others i got my WDTV to network and access all my files on my DNS321 NAS. It took a few days and came out successful.
Of course, one's happiness is only temporary. Like many, i want more out of this thing (with consideration of course).
So the next question on the list for me is:
What are the possibilities of being able to stream netflix movies on this thing?

So is there a good easy guide yet. I see so much information on this subject I dont know where to start. And what did you have to buy to add on.
i just went officially to the toilet...

with these things whiteboy, nothing is ever easy. i could create a nice write-up guide but i can guarantee confusion no matter how detailed.
The WDTV hack is more on the simple side. But to connect it to a windows box or linux box is another critical step. This is where things can get hairy.
simple step for the WDTV:
- I purchased a trendnet USB-LAN adpater from radio shack for $25.
- Load the update Mod Firmware by B-Rad here (http://wdtvforum.com/main/index.php?topic=446.0)
Your WDTV is now networkable.
Are you using NFS on your 321 or CIFS?
I can't get NFS to work on my 323 but CIFS is working fine.
Thanks
Luis

@all,
sorry in advance for breaking into this thread. I would like to ask you something. I just received my WDTV yesterday but I am not sure yet about how to manage my storage.
My powerlan is definately too slow to stream, so principally I would like to have some kind of USB-HDD to play back from.
Unfortunately for most of the NAS systems, they have USB-Type A which can't be connected to the WDTV :-(
In your opinion would it probably work if I would go for the DNS-313 one bay NAS, connect it to my home network (Windows Vista 32 Bit), copy regularly files from Network to HDD and play them back via USB 2.0 ?
What do you guys think ?
Thank you very much in advance.
Regards

@VisionFactory
short answer: yes
long answer: as you stated - it would seem most appropriate and still keep things simple for yourself...

Just wanted to say thanks for this old thread. I have a old WDTV HD gen 1 laying around that I can't use since all my stuff is networked now. I ended up replacing it with the WDTV live plus which I love.
I guess I'm gonna have to pull the old one out since I can't seem to sell it and see what happens. If I get it up and running on a usb wifi stick and connecting to my Nas's I will be so so happy and so will my daughter!!!!
