Hi

I have had my two platstion3's for over a year now but only have about 5 games,

I check out the games at walmart all the time looking for sales, anyway most games are 59 bucks usually but yesterday i noticed most of them now are $68

Is this just at walmart or was there a price increase.

I noticed the same thing last night and from what I have seen it is only Walmart. I still bought the game at Walmart though, but only because no other store was open at the time.

That's what I would figure, since OP is from Canada. However, I got a little confused when I first saw that price jump and didn't read where he was from.

I guess they are making up for the currency correction. I guess last year the Canadian dollar was par (or even a few cents more) than the US dollar, but I think recently I have seen it at 1CND =0.82USD, thus the price increase likely reflect that?

Yup, currency related. The same price increase has hit Canadian EB outlets too. Sucks since it is not like we just all got handed 20% raises or anything.

Strangely enough, PSN games have not jumped up in price.

Cheers

And prices don't or aren't cheaper here, so that whole premise of our dollar or your dollar is stronger and we can go there or you can come here and save money is bunk. When the Canadian dollar was worth only like .60 of the US dollar, many would think and say buy in Canada because the US dollar is .40 stronger, but what really happens is prices in Canada are .40 more. It usually becomes a wash and like you said when prices go up like that wages certainly don't. The only way you really make out on these currency differences is to buy millions of whatever currency and hope the exchange rate goes up in your favor.

Come to the US and exchange the Ca. Dollar for US. For every Canadian dollar you gain .18 cents. .18 x 59.99=10.80. 59.99+10.80=70.79 US. Wow you actually save a couple of dollars buying in Canada. If I did that right and didn't reverse the exchange or screw up the math. :D

The problem is that most places usually do not adjust pricing according to currency exchange. Here are a couple of examples. We used to go to Whistler every year to ski when the exchange rate was 0.65. We would joke about it because to us everything was '1/2 price ($1.50 CND = $1.00 US, thus everything was '50% cheaper' (not quite but close), thus hotel bills, food, lift tickets were cheaper for us. I went to Montreal and bought 3-4 suits, leather Jackets and shirts from Moores and another place because everything was 'cheaper'. For the last two years however, we stayed in the US, when to Breakenridge/Vial, and Mammoth because it was 'cheaper' than Whistler because the exchange was no longer favorable (after converstion everything was more expensive in Canada). In actual fact, Canadians were finding things to be cheaper in the US (an example was Cars, where the cost of an equivalent Car in the Canada was still priced based on 0.65 (ie a $30 000 car in the US was 40-45K in Canada, and my cousin included came to the US to buy cars (when the dollar was par). Now that the exchange has dipped, the prices are equivalent again, but now it is becoming cheaper for US people to buy things in Canada (I know several Car manufacturers adjusted car prices a couple of year ago, like Porsche, to avoid Canadians buying cars in the US, but if the prices are still deflated, then an American buying a car in Canada might be a better deal, but obviously that will not last long). Same thing for Video games, since most MRSP games are $59.99, if I went to Canada, I would be paying ~$48 (USD) which would have been a good deal.
