View Full Version : Sound characteristics of omnimount speaker mounts?

Hello,

My buddy and I spent 5 hours last night testing speaker locations for my rear surrounds followed up by running wire and finally mounting the speakers on the wall using omnimount wall mounts. The test setup of speaker location with the speakers sitting on top of a pair of 6' ladders was excellent. I expected it to sound even better once I had them mounted on the omnimounts (no negative sound problems due to sitting on top of a ladder for example).

Problem is they sound worse than when they were on the ladders! I have no idea why this is. Anyone have any thoughts on this? Any sound experts out there that might know whether using omnimounts is good or bad or otherwise? I'm just sick about the whole thing

Thanks,
Mike

Is it possible because now they are closer to the wall it is changing the sound characteristics?

What kind of speakers are they? Are they ported? A lot of speakers need room away from a wall to minimize reflections, etc.

Your problem has nothing to do with the mounts, it has to do with proximity to the wall.

So is there anything to be done about this?

Without trying to threadjack, I’ll add in that I have 4 monopole bookshelf speakers with rear firing ports that (right or wrong) will be what I have for the surrounds. Is there any mounting/treatment that will optimize this setup for wall mounted surrounds?

Suggestions welcomed.
