I have read the wiki on both versions. They seem to be very similar in fuctionality.
The ext3-boot says it has more linux capabilites, needs a USB stick at all times, NFS networking w/dongle and the ability to add a webserver, torrent downloader, etc.
The WDlxTV seems to have the same capabilities. It doesn't need a USB stick, USB ethernet NFS sharing, and has Optware loading which could also allow a torrent download or usenet downloader.
They seem about the same and the WDlxTV doesn't need to use an extra USB port. The optware on WDlxTV seems to be nice.
I would like to try and stream my NAS stored -MKV files to my customized WDTV wirelessly via client bridge to the USB to ethernet dongle. Is it possible?
Also what firmware did you guys choose and why?
Also importantly, reverting back to original firmware, is it just reflashing it with a stock firmware and just changing the date in the notepad file?
