I have read the wiki on both versions. They seem to be very similar in fuctionality.

The ext3-boot says it has more linux capabilites, needs a USB stick at all times, NFS networking w/dongle and the ability to add a webserver, torrent downloader, etc.

The WDlxTV seems to have the same capabilities. It doesn't need a USB stick, USB ethernet NFS sharing, and has Optware loading which could also allow a torrent download or usenet downloader.

They seem about the same and the WDlxTV doesn't need to use an extra USB port. The optware on WDlxTV seems to be nice.

I would like to try and stream my NAS stored -MKV files to my customized WDTV wirelessly via client bridge to the USB to ethernet dongle. Is it possible?

Also what firmware did you guys choose and why?

Also importantly, reverting back to original firmware, is it just reflashing it with a stock firmware and just changing the date in the notepad file?

@yazyazoo

i went with wdlxtv with b-rad's explanation on it's simplicity. Installation was cake. i purchased the trendnet usb-lan adapter and i was immediately on the network. Nothing to do.

However, i'm using a nas server, DNS321, and for some strange reason, a usb stick HAS to be plugged in for WDTV to see my network files?!? THe stick doesn't need anything on it - just has to be plugged in(?!?).

At this point i don't mind - i got what i wanted and i'm very happy.

I think you need "net.config" and "net.mounts" on the USB stick in order to be on the network.

No it's because without any media plugged in the WDTV won't let you browse for files.

Well you are doing better than me.
I have the latest WDTV firmware installed and cannot get network connectivity.

I have installed wireless-mod.app.bin (0.0.1) as well as wpa_supplicant.conf and
net.config on the usb stick. (edited both files)

No joy at the moment.

Am i missing something? I have a d-link-g122 wireless G usb adapter.

Please help!!
