I have a set of Z-5500 speakers. According to the specs, they can process DTS and DD PLII.

I used to have a BDP-1600 Bluray, and when playing Iron Man BD, my Z-5500 definitely showed DTS as the current format.

I've now "upgraded" to PS3, however when playing the same BD, i cannot get DTS anymore, it's showing up as DD PLII

- My PS3 is connected to the Z-5500 using a TOSLINK cable
- I have set BD/DVD Audio Playback (optical) to Bitstream
- I have configured PS3 to output on Digital Optical instead of HDMI
- I have chosen DTS 5.1 as a supported format under sound options (although i cannot uncheck two PCM formats... they are always enabled)
- I have tried, while playing the BD, to go to AV settings and switch between Linear PCM and Bitstream (i see no change, sound does not even skip or anything).
- Pressing Select during playback comes up with the extra information and it shows the disk is playing with Dolby TrueHD 5.1

So, how do i get my PS3 to output DTS sound?

I'm guessing here, but maybe because you have the disk's audio settings set to TrueHD? Maybe the disk is playing TrueHD and the PS3 is downmixing that to DD PLII to send over optical? What are the other audio options in the disk's settings menu?

PS3 won't do any movie audio transcoding. You need a DTS soundtrack to output DTS.

This is my guess, most likely your BDP-1600 was transcoding to DTS. Pop in any of the Lord of the Rings movies and see if that works.....
