Hey all,
Finally finishing off my HT Friday with my purchase of a new paradigm dsp3400, and a harmony one remote. Was looking for a few hints at setting up the sub to get the best sound. The room is a long rectangle about 27' x 11' with the ht on one end and the kitchen on the other. My main listening area is about 14-15' away. I don't have much room for placement as the room is so narrow, and I have someone living below me. I'd like to place the sub about 4-5' out from the mains next to my love seat firing outward. Would running my setup from the reciever do the trick?
Almost forgot the system used 75% ht, 15% gaming, and 10% music. Thanks for taking the time reading and here is my equip....

Are you saying run all your components to the receiver and then a single cable from the receiver out to the TV? Thats how i have my system running. Your receiver should be capable of this as well as long as it can pass analog via hdmi you will only need one cable going to the TV. As far as integrating the sub into the mix do it the same way you tuned your speakers using an SPL meter and the test tones built into the receiver. If you have not tuned those properly yet and have no clue what im talking about then let us know and I or someone else will get you on the right track. And placement of the sub as far as optimal position since you are limited on space up by the mains might be your best bet for being able to blend in the best. But if you are not as space limited as led on then get an extra long rca cable, move your sofa/chair, put your sub where your sofa/chair were, play some bass heavy material, and crawl around the room listening for the best spot for bass. Once you find where the bass sounds the loudest/cleanest to you place it there and you will have the best spot for it. But it is very important that you properly tune the sound system as a whole to get the best results it will be night and day difference once you do.

Yes I'm running everything through the reciever via hdmi, except the sat rec which due to an awfull update has to be run directly to the tv. I can't put the sub up with the mains because on one side there is a vent that will rattle, and the other is above the bedroom of the tenant below me. I'm getting a 5 meter sub cable and plan on sitting at along the left wall as far away as I can. Would being below a window affect things as well?
I'd like to get some pointers about setting the gain and phase, as I've never done this before. I've already run the auto calibration to set delays and such. Also should I be set to bitstream or PCM?
