I bought a PowerMid IR extender to use in my whole house A/V set-up to control a Impact Acoustics 3x5 matrix switch (found here) http://www.impactacoustics.com/product.asp?cat_id=1002&sku=40973

The PowerMid works fine with the switch, but it also seems to block all other IR signals coming to the room where the switch is located.

I have a DirecTV unit, Tivo and the Matrix switch all located in my basement off of IR repeaters that run off of my whole house audio system. The IR signal is transmitted from the in-wall control panels that are located in twelve zones throughout my home. In one room, the in-wall control panel is located behind the main seating area, thus the need for an IR extender. It is a pain pointing the remote control over ones head and blindly hitting keys when changing channels.

Anyone know of a fix, why this happens, or can recommend an IR extender that will not blow out everything else I want to control?

I also have access to Cat5e directly behind the gear I want to control. In other words, is there an IR extender that can run through my home network over Cat5 to my gear room?

Possibly the internal IR blaster in the Powermid receiver is swamping your other gear? You could try covering the internal blaster on the Powermid and just using an external IR blaster connected between the Powermid and your switch.

Why don't you just use your existing hard-wired IR extension system to control the switch?

I found the Hot Link IR gear, ditching the PowerMids, HL have a set that runs over Cat5, so I went with that. As far as the IR in my whole house, it works, but in two of my rooms the wall controls are behind you or around a corner. So I dropped 2 bills for the Hot Link. Looked like the best and most reliable solution.
