View Full Version : PSP UMD from Digital copies of Blu-Rays
WilliamR 04-27-09, 08:41 AM Hey guys, with all these blu-ray titles having that digital copy CD now, I am wondering, can I put that digital copy on the PC and then get it to the UMD for playing in the PSP? Once I make the digital copy on the PC, do I need anything to make it playable as a UMD???
Civicsixxx 04-27-09, 08:51 AM Just copy it to a memory stick.
bassmonkeee 04-27-09, 08:54 AM Have you read the information that came with the discs? If not, you'll see that they have DRM limiting which devices they can be used with. And, you aren't allowed to discuss breaking DRM at AVS.
So, no.
shine5555 04-27-09, 10:00 AM Sorry... the digital copy's do nto work on a PSP... only Windows, or Apple... It really sucks. I have not found anything to break the code and make it playable for PSP
TornadoTJ 04-27-09, 10:00 AM Isn't it odd that they don't work from Sony movies. Hmm.
imdjenk 04-27-09, 10:40 AM Pretty dumb, i agree. Sony did announce at one time that it will be a big feature to transfer bluray movies to PSP, but so far nothing.

WilliamR 04-27-09, 12:36 PM Bummer, I could of sworn I read somewhere you could use those extra discs to put them on UMD's. Oh well, bummer. Hope they fix it soon, that would be a sweet feature.
steven975 04-27-09, 06:25 PM well, until sony decides they want to spring for a PlaysForSure license, it'll never happen.
The studios are not going to support (and license!) yet another DRM format just for Sony.
Interestingly ONE digital copy does work on PSP...Pineapple Express.
But, IMO, the digital copies that come with DVDs are for suckers. Their performance is aweful (due to DRM) and the encodes sub-par.
I thought Sony movies digital copy does work on the PSP?

True, but if you're only using it for a portable device, it's very convenient. Especially since most of us are buying Blu Rays now but don't have Blu Ray drives in our PCs (yet).

only if you have an ipod, then at least their DRM applies. Any other PMP and you are limited to one device. No revokes. Also, if you change the memory card, that's a new device, and a DRM no-go.
WilliamR 12-02-10, 08:23 AM Does anyone know if this has changed and you are able to make PSP movies out of the digital copies for Blu-Rays? I was wonderng since they new PSP's came out that go digital now instead of using UMDs???
steven975 12-02-10, 07:47 PM Yes, it has changed, but only for Sony discs.
A little while back, the Digital Copy DVDs from Sony became PSP compatible (Underworld3 and Angels and Demons for example), but you still needed a PC.
Now, however, some of the newest Sony BD's make another icon in the XMB, and you can redeem the code there. I don't have any, but I'm pretty sure Legion has that, as do a few other Netflix discs I've gotten (no code obviously).
You're starting to see more and more movies package a DVD instead of the Digital Copy. I find that preferable for reasons I won't elaborate on.
