I recently bought a pdp-5020fd, which has a sub out rca jack. Currently I am running the stereo rca outs to a crappy old stereo with even older speakers. The sound from the plasma's speakers and the stereo isn't half bad and good enough for me right now. The low end, however, is lacking.

I would like to add a powered subwoofer to the system. I went to best buy, but wasn't too impressed with what they had, although the subs were sitting in a metal shelf that rattled so it was hard to tell. I'd like to spend less than $300 or so.

Also, another issue that is related. Currently, I have to adjust the volume on the tv AND the stereo. Adding a sub will result in yet another volume control. Any way to fix this? Ideal would be to have the volume control on the plasma affect the rca out to the stereo and the sub, but I don't think this is possible. Next best would be to have the rca outs(left, right, sub) go to a device that would adjust the volume, then pass the signal through. Any options?

Thanks!

If you have a couple extra dollars then I'd definitely suggest you go for something like THIS (http://www.wwstereo.com/#/ecommerce/store/Speakers/33/144661/9_1_20_-1__0_0_0_-1/)
It's a complete system and it will probably amaze you. I have owned this system also and for the money it's really hard to beat.

The only other thing I would suggest is you buying just the 5.0 system for $199 and then add a BIC F12 sub or a PA-120 sub, both are around $200 and add some serious entry-level bass. You can find either on Ebay or Amazon I believe..and there are no shipping charges.

Now you just have one remote (the AVR) to control the volume for everything, and no need to ever use your TV speakers again...unless you are say..late-night watching and don't want to turn on the receiver and speakers.

I like the looks of the HD-SUB12, and the black finish would go with the rest of my setup. Free shipping too. Might have to go with this. With the 15 was in stock in black though... Thanks for the suggestion!

I guess I would be happy with the 12. Do I really need a 15? What advantages does the larger woofer offer? I'm in an apartment, so I can't go crazy anyway. Would the freq response be about the same?

here is my review i did.. im planing on a second pa120 during the summer.. .. i live in a townhome with both walls sharing with nieghbors.. kind of like an apartment.. so playing it loud is not an option.. and the lower the freq the easily it travles through walls.. but i get enough low end to more than satisfy my needs.. even at lower night time watching levels..

I'd say you have no need at all for a 15' sub in an apartment. Even the 12' BIC F12 or PA-120 would be more than you need but more appropriately sized for an apartment imo.
