New driver assembly and amp in my "old" PW2200.

I know to run it in at low volumes, keep the gain down, but for how long?

It's been a while, and could not find another thread.

Thanks!

regards,
Red

I don't think that you need to break in a sub. I would think you could run it within the normal limits of its range.

I have a PW2200. Good sub for the $$.

Increase the gain by 1 db every 3 seconds until you have reached your normal listening levels and you should have the best possible break in results.

I thought this was one of those, "What's the best movie to show off my sub?" thread.

I'll move along....

RedWhere did you get a NEW driver and amp for your PW2200, did you get it from Paradigm? I also have a PW2200v2.

Pop in Kung Fu Panda and play the skadoosh scene at reference volume.

Just play it at normal levels. It's not a car where it needs to settle the rings into the cylinder. I know that they don't even do that anymore especially with synthetics. The surround will lossen up slightly with regular use. Enjoy it.

A speaker will break-in naturally over time. If you want to accelerate the process, play low pulsing tones with a low duty cycle of say 20-30%.

What that means if play a 15-20hz test tone for 1 second at near xmax (the linear range in which a speaker moves) and then have it off for 5 seconds. What this will do is give your soft parts a good stretch without causing excessive amounts of heat to build up in the amp or voice coil.

I need to rent it again and play that scene now that I have dual subs.

First, thank you to all for the advice. I ran a signal to the sub and raised the level a bit for an hour or two. For some reason, I thought speaker cones had to flex their way in before blasting them. My bad.

And yes, the driver came from Paradigm. They dropped the ball a couple of times and it took three months, but now that it is working, I could not be happier with their response with an 8 your old sub that I screwed up by disconnecting it with the power on (jammed the driver).

That's what I did on the very first day I owned it. Well not at reference levels though.
