So my launch xbox (well first refurb after RROD) finally bit the dust with the no video issue. So anyways, I decided to just buy a new arcade, because I wanted the HDMI capability... But I also decided to send my broken one back to Microsoft to get another refurb so I could have a second Xbox for netflix and pc streaming, with the occasianal game playing.

So now for my question, will I be able to use my gamertag on both xboxes without having a memory unit on the second one? Or should the refurb have the new 256 MB memory unit on the motherboard? I'd rather not have to switch the hard drive each time I want to use the second xbox... what are my options? (do you need any memory to do netflix streaming?)

You new refurb will be just like the one sent in, no internal MU. The new Arcade with the onboard MU will allow for online play without a HDD, the MU is just big enough to handle your GT, NXE and some game saves. The problem you will run into is not having enough space for downloaded maps and whatnot. The way I did it is just buy a used HDD, and an external mem card. Keep your profile on the mem card and just swap it between consoles.

Additionally, I'm pretty sure that your gamertag/profile can only be on one console at a time. You can get around that by saving it on a memory card and using the card on whatever console you want to play on, but you can't have the profile on two consoles unless things have changed.

So if I buy a memory card and have my profile on it and use it on the second xbox, will I be unable to use the one on the hard drive?

forget all that stuff about memory cards and just swap your HDD between the xbox youre playing at the time. i do this between my original pro model and my elite and it works fine.

just try and stay consistent and only download DLC on one console consistently (so that way you dont have a lot of DLC content assigned to both consoles).

The only issue I can see with this is using netflix... Sometimes I may not want to run downstairs to grab the Hard Drive... not to mention I'll have to teach the wife how to do all that... I'm just trying to find the most seamless way...

The one on the hard drive will cease to exist if you transfer it to a memory card (I have never tried this so I may be getting the details wrong).

So bottom line, I either have to move the hard drive or a memory card... what a pain...

Or, you can "retrieve" it from Xbox Live every time but that's more a pain than any of the other options.

Some once posted that if you use Datel transfer kit, you can copy your profile onto 2 different X360 HDs. And as long as you don't have them logged in to Live at the same time, it will work. Haven't tried it yet though.

Do not even think about coming back here whining about "oh my 360 is banned from Live! Boo-hoo!" after doing this though. Has anyone been banned for this action as of yet? Not that I'm aware. It is a direct violation of your terms of use though, and as such, a blanket banning of this action could be coming tomorrow.

For what you want to accomplish, the best action is to just make a second Gamertag for the second 360, and buy it some Gold so that it can stream Netflix. This will make the wife happiest, by far.
