View Full Version : WDTV with Qnap and NFS

I have a Qnap 209 Pro II running NFS v3 and I have an NFS share to which I connect from my WDTV running ext3-boot. I know the USB-LAN adapter is one of the fastest available for the WDTV and I've seen reports of 60Mbps.
In my case though, it's not so good and 1080p movies are getting jerky or even freeze the picture because it doesn't get the data quick enough.
Is there anyone esle who's using a Qnap with WDTV and can perhaps tell me which NFS settings would be best to use? Perhaps changing rsize would gain some speed? And is it possible to use such commands when connecting to a NAS? I can't change anything on the NAS and I don't know if it's even possible to use commands like rsize.
Any help would be appreciated.

I don't have a Qnap so I can't speak for it (I stream from a PC and can get speed at around 62mbps). Have you tried running some speed tests to see what kind of streaming speed you are getting from the Qnap?

Are you using subtitles?
If so switch them off and then try it.
I had the same problem, and reverted back to 01.1.02 and the problems disappeared (WDlxTV0.3).
Somehow the subtitle rendering engine used in all the betas is causing those sorts of problems confirmed with Greek and Argentinian subs so far.

Thanks for the replies.
I've been testing with some mkv files but haven't tried switching off subs. I will try that tonight.
Can any of you point me into a direction on how I could test the speed between my WDTV and Qnap? I guess I will have to install an app on the WDTV for this?

Thanks.
I've seen that before but since the server side of my setup is not a PC I have no idea how to achieve that. Would I have to telnet into my NAS and do it from there or do I need to get into the WDTV?

You need to telnet into your WDTV and run the "time cat..." command from there.

Remember this is not a perfect test as it will only give you an average throughput result.

Better test would be to use iperf on both the WDTV and source. iperf can be installed on the WDTV but I'm not sure if apps can be installed on your NAS.

Thanks Mr Lazy. That's just what I needed to know. I will run some tests this afternoon.
I can also install apps on the NAS so I'm going to try iperf as well.
