in my current set-up i have the PS3 and my PC both running wirelessly and streaming of SD content is great but i do get some stutter with HD content (to the point where it is unwatchable)

will i get a significant performance gain by 'wiring' the PS3-router connection even if i leave the PC-router connection wireless?

You will get a big performance boost if both the PC and the PS3 are wired to the router. Leaving either one wireless will limit the max transfer rate. If you want to stream 1080p you may also want to look into a gigabit router or switch and gigabit lan on your PC if it's not already.

I use a standard 100M router and have no problems with 720p, but there is still some stuttering with 1080p. But I'm also processor limited when transcoding those 1080p files.
