View Full Version : Ferrari Challenge - Fiorano track and DLCs ?
windwaves 04-28-09, 11:11 AM Hi guys, a couple of questions.
Do you know of any "DLC" released for the this game in the past?
I was looking for something on the web and found some news about the release in May of a DLC for the game that will add a number of Ferrari models as well as one new track (Nurburing).
Also, could anyone check about whether or not the Fiorano track is in the game ? I am pretty sure it is, I just don't have the PS3 here to check myself.
thx !
windwaves 04-28-09, 03:08 PM nobody knows this game around here it would seem !
Wow, it's not that bad :)
confidenceman 04-28-09, 03:58 PM Wow, it's not that bad :)Depends on who you ask. I personally couldn't stand the game. There are much better sim racers around IMO.
windwaves 04-28-09, 04:41 PM yes, I don't particularly like it myself.....
Even F1 Championship Edition is infinetly better.
What are your fav sim racers ?
bobzdar 04-28-09, 04:53 PM It only managed to make it into my ps3 one time, I couldn't get the controls set up to where it felt like I was driving a car.
Obviously, GT5:P is the sim to get, there are 5 different Ferraris in the game so you can even get your red car fix. It's the best ps3 sim so far.

What are your fav sim racers ?For now, GT5P. But I thought Moto GP and F1 weren't nearly as bad as Ferrari Challenge.
windwaves 05-04-09, 10:44 AM GT5P shall it be !
Thanks dudes.
BTW, I really like the F1 game myself (have I said this before ? :)), but I did not even know of a Moto GP one ! I think I will have to get that one as well.
confidenceman 05-04-09, 12:28 PM but I did not even know of a Moto GP one ! I think I will have to get that one as well.If you haven't played these before, be prepared for a steep learning curve. Just learning to take a turn can be a real bitch. And accelerating out of a turn... fahgeddaboutit.
windwaves 05-04-09, 01:34 PM ah ! wow, that sounds good.
I have been on motorcycles since the age of 14 (well, mopeds back then :)), so I can't wait to see this. Of course, a motoGP bike is another universe from street bikes...
I am curious though as to why I have never seen the MotoGP game at Best Buy or Gamespot (whatever that place is called). That is how I typically shop for these things, just stop by, take a look at new stuff ...
I don't know anything about the DLC but Ferrari Challenge is a pretty good game, I've just started playing it last week and I'm surprised to see so many people saying its crap. It is somewhere between F1CE and GT5P for me. GT has amazing graphics and a "feel" to the cars that makes 'em very life-like. F1CE is true racer where pit stops and car setup (tire choice) can make all the difference. Anyway... onto FC -
The good: the AI cars actually move out of the way when you get a good run on them and fight among themselves unlike the boring drones in GT. Graphics and sound are decent, slightly better then DiRT I think. The car control is acceptable, I can actually drift better in FC then in GT but some may find this makes it less realistic. The ability to adjust various options by pausing the game is nice. Variable weather and real world tracks add to the racing experience. Touching the grass causes a massive loss of grip unlike in GT where it just slows you down.
The bad: the cars seem to lack any feeling of weight or suspension travel. Going 30 or 130 mph does look or feel any different to me, there is just no sense of "wow I'm going way too fast for this turn". It's hard to take tight corners as there is too much understeer under braking even when using ABS. (FYI - I haven't messed with too many settings so its possible I can fix some of these complaints). Engine sounds are weak.
windwaves 05-05-09, 05:09 PM from graphics to sound to the general feel of the game, I just think it's pretty bad.
I just got GTP, we shall see how it compares .... obviously a different game but still, a car racing thing.
BTW guys, do I really have to make all that money before I can drive those fancy cars ? isn't there another way to do that ? I don't know whether I am going to have the patience .....
confidenceman 05-05-09, 06:52 PM I am curious though as to why I have never seen the MotoGP game at Best Buy or Gamespot (whatever that place is called). That is how I typically shop for these things, just stop by, take a look at new stuff ...Not sure. But I do know that most sim racers do much better in Europe than in the States, so that might be why. You'd probably have to order it online if you want a copy. A quick look at Amazon shows new copies of the latest version going for $20-30. You could probably find a used copy for half that price.
BTW guys, do I really have to make all that money before I can drive those fancy cars ? isn't there another way to do that ? I don't know whether I am going to have the patience .....So long as you have the latest patch, you should be earning money very quickly. Earlier versions of the game, it took a bit longer. Regardless, earning money shouldn't take too long, and it doesn't take very long to get the cars you want/need. Since you can't use those expensive cars on the early tracks, you usually have enough money to buy whatever car/class you need next.
It's hard to take tight corners as there is too much understeer under braking even when using ABS.
To follow up on my own comment after playing some more I've learned two things: 1) the orange color on racing line means "apply brakes NOW" by the time you see red its too late and 2) the car slows down much better by aggressive downshifting. As a result of these two findings I'm starting to hit the apexes better now and have even had some great runs including a pole position after qualifying and coming from way back (13th place) to 1st in a 10 minute race in the rain!
I should also mention the game has damage... something GT5 might finally have in 2015  :p
confidenceman 05-12-09, 01:59 PM I should also mention the game has damage... something GT5 might finally have in 2015  :pThis game shows how little damage modeling does to improve a game. I really don't think it'd add anything to the GT series. If they add it, it would only be as a concession to non-sim enthusiasts looking for cheap thrills.

True... mostly because the damage is only in the looks department, the car's handling is not effected at all :( oh well atleast something happens when you hit another car. As such I've yet to finish a race without losing my front bumper :p
