Buy.com is selling refurb xbox360's with HDMI and a 20gb HD for $159 with free shipping! That is almost half price, no tax and no shipping. If I didn't already have 2 machines I probably would be buying one myself!

If the 3 yr RROD warranty starts when you buy it then that is a great deal, but...

If it is refurbed wouldn't the overheating problem have been resolved?

I think the deal is dead now anyways. Microsoft's website had refurbs with a one year warranty I thought.

Good deal. Even withouth the warranty, the RROD only takes about a half hour and $12 in parts from Home Depot to fix.

The $199 Elite deal that I posted still seems to be working.

That really is tempting, primarily for the 120G drive. The problem is that if you read some of the reviews, there are already several complaints of the Xbox being DoA or RRoD in a few days, or loud fan noise, etc. Almost makes the discount a hassel, but as a second (or third) Xbox this might be a great deal.

Can't you still buy an extended warranty from Microsoft?

If you do it right, it takes about an hour and only ~$2 in parts. Local bolt-n-nut supply houses FTW:)

I bought a refurb Elite and have had no problems with it. Bought as a 2nd system so was not too worried about losing playing time. Considering the 120GB hard drive and the wireless controller, it was a very good deal. Since I got it a month ago, I have made it my main system. My guess, it will be the same chance of breakage as any other system. You have to determine if it is worth the price of admission. :D
