View Full Version : Is there a major flaw with the HF 200?

I've been debating on what camera to get and narrowed it down thanks to AVS members help.

When searching through to see if any cameras have had a price cut, I've found the HF 200 for 675.00 from a reputable dealer. Not one of the bait-and-switch, but an actual legitimate chain that people use on here. Is there something seriously flawed that would make it reduced in price so much?

They've reduced the HFS 100's price to 989.00, and the HF 20 to 850.00... so I'm not sure if this is just a sale.

I was debating between the HG 20, HF 11 and HF 200. I've played with the HF 20 and liked it a lot and could see myself buying a 200. I just don't see why it's so heavily discounted already.

Any insight would be great.

As far as the prices, they always drop at least a couple hundred dollars after release. They historically have settled in a certain range after a couple of months: in general.
I can't say if the HF200 will be $550 sometime in June.

Look at this chart for the HF11:

The HF200 has been $749 since release, so it really isn't that much of a price drop. The rest of the newer models seem to have dropped in price by just as much, which I think is completely typical. Once the newness (and gotta have the latest & greatest) wears off, prices will drop. I think most of us here are waiting for just that to happen. It shouldn't be long before they are all $100+ off MSRP.

That one's a bit more interesting as it certainly looks and feels like it has hit the bottom level for a few months, ~799. The HF20 should end up being less than the HF11 since there is more room for further drops. Even though everyone says the HF20 is not the successor to the HF11, it will be a bit ridiculous if the HF11 ends up with a higher price tag than the HF20. Whatever. I don't really care about the strategy & am only concerned with seeing all those prices drop.

Check this out: the HG20 went from $950 to $700 after only a month:

I still think the better deal now is the HG20, 60Gig HD as well as Flashcard up to 32Gig capabilities, also has better low light performance...They are selling like hotcakes online , many places are sold out and awaiting restock, mine from Dell has been on BO for nearly 2 weeks, I am still looking at the 15th of May before delivery, Newegg is sold out as well....

Don't get me wrong I'm not saying the HF200 is the best option.

I'm between the HF200 and the HG20. BandH normally has it at 600. Through google checkout it's 600 and through nextag it was 625. Now it is at 700.

What did you pay through dell?

They both produce very good quality videos right? I'm looking for some reassurance in case I go the HF200 route. And I've seen videos that look amazing just like the HG20. I just have an uneasy feeling about getting it over the HG20.

I saw the HG20 advertised through google for 600 at BH but you click on the link and its $700. Whats the deal with that?

Google hasn't updated the prices yet.

Maybe BH should update theirs to Googles :)
