View Full Version : Move Over WD TV.....You have Company! dlipter 04-29-09, 12:34 AM http://www.seagate.com/theater/ Let the discussions begin! No optical audio out. No HDMI! a big jerk 04-29-09, 12:37 AM No MKV, proprietary based on that line of drive... how thoughtful of them. hookwai 04-29-09, 12:41 AM Now this is a piece of SH*T. zzzozzzo 04-29-09, 03:33 AM If someone can transport me back to 2006 this thing would make some sense I guess Seagate had some old chips left (or pimped a few) put a plastic cover on it and called_it_ H_Day Insane Devil 04-29-09, 03:43 AM So basically, the WDTV Still stands as the king! bisha 04-29-09, 09:54 AM First and foremost, did anyone say FUGLY (and that goes for the remote too)!? Second, no HDMI, no 1080p. Hmm, doubt this will make too many ripples. At this point for any product to move the WD HD TV over it'd have to have more features at or very close to the same price point, especially after the pre-releases that took community input into account. kciaccio 04-29-09, 09:58 AM No MKV, proprietary based on that line of drive... how thoughtful of them. Exactly, Im not getting pinned down to one type of drive for anything! Seagate is going to tank on this one. Plus it only does half of what WD does. simpleHT 04-29-09, 10:01 AM Pig won't fly ... whiteboy714 04-29-09, 10:42 AM HAHA are they serious and you have to use their drive. How are they gonna put this out when it doesn't touch the WDTV. Very strange and it costs a little more. zapster 04-29-09, 10:47 AM Interesting. I like the docking feature. ISO support is a nice feature too. MenaceInc 04-29-09, 10:55 AM but it can spread flu :D Pig won't fly ... zapster 04-29-09, 11:01 AM I wonder if it has a good slow motion or frame by frame feature? Slide show with music, cool feature. dlipter 04-29-09, 12:42 PM It does have a usb jack for external drives. high_definitely 04-29-09, 12:59 PM No optical audio out. It has a COAX digital out, so that's not the problem. However... No HDMI! 1080i output max. (-> likely considerably inferior chipset), no H.264 / VC-1 decoding support, no FLAC decoding etc. etc. Seriously, what were they thinking? Hate to say the word, but 'fail' pretty much sums it up. Competition is always good from the consumer perspective, so Seagate, get your act together and develop something that can actually be considered 'competition' to the WD TV-HD, a big success by one of your major competitors. joshjoshlol 04-29-09, 01:29 PM hahaha, i remember seeing an electronic trade show preview video of this a few months ago. it looked wishy washy based on their presentation, and that was before they even fully disclosed the feature set. i feel really bad for them that they so completely missed the mark on almost all aspects (HDMI, MKV, etc), as they are a good company otherwise and would have given WD a run for its money. the WDTV could really stand to see some serious competition at the brick and mortar stores, so that the consumer could ultimately benefit from more innovation... pack21 04-29-09, 01:32 PM hahahaa.. 1080i (Seagete) VS 1080p (WDTV) :D:D Rupert_Pupkin 04-29-09, 01:33 PM I've seen some ridiculous products throughout the years but this is up there with the worst. kciaccio 04-29-09, 01:36 PM I hope they have good subtitle support or they will never hear the end of bitching from countries outside the US. BadByte 04-29-09, 01:46 PM Must be a delayed april fool's joke joshjoshlol 04-29-09, 01:46 PM I hope they have good subtitle support or they will never hear the end of bitching from countries outside the US. don't forget dvd menu support. holy crap, the whining we've all seen over that issue with the WDTV is amazing... kciaccio 04-29-09, 01:48 PM don't forget dvd menu support. Holy crap, the whining we've all seen over that issue with the wdtv is amazing... lmao:d gmanvbva 04-29-09, 02:27 PM whining about whining is the ultimate! :p high_definitely 04-29-09, 02:31 PM I want AVS menu support to navigate through the whining. leny 04-29-09, 02:52 PM don't forget dvd menu support. holy crap, the whining we've all seen over that issue with the WDTV is amazing... See what makes me laugh when people 8-itch about DVD menu support is that, the WD TV never even claimed to play DVD's at all. It was suppoust to be a simple mp3/video/jpg player O_O. Maybe if they had read the box/manual... now just because it has many other deatures doesn't mean is a pos just because it doesn't have those ugly low res DVD menus o_O. Then again thats just me... and maybe a few million others :D Btw thats one heck of an ugly seagate player... looks twice as big as a WD TV yet technically the technology it containts would be packed in half a WD TV.... what a waste of caps/trans etc O_O clicke 04-29-09, 02:57 PM I hope they have good subtitle support or they will never hear the end of bitching from countries outside the US. don't forget dvd menu support. holy crap, the whining we've all seen over that issue with the WDTV is amazing... Good one guys, I LOLed hard :) I hope Seagate rethinks this and tries again. Competition is good but dammit, you gotta at least pretend like you are trying. AndrewWOz 04-29-09, 09:02 PM Slide show with music, cool feature. You know that the WD HD TV does this, right? For anyone that doesn't know, start your music playing, hit the home button then start a slideshow. Nice little feature. vanylapep 04-29-09, 09:33 PM They support GREEK subtitles! kciaccio 04-29-09, 09:49 PM They support GREEK subtitles! Ya, but are they pretty? oliverjg 04-29-09, 09:55 PM wow this seagate is a POS. looks like wd still has the low end video player niche locked up.... at least until somebody else comes out with the exact same thing as wd WITH dvd menus. :D |
