One of my beloved old MX-500 remotes is dying. A couple of buttons are very touchy about how they are pushed. Anyway, was going to buy a new one but can't find an online retailer. Anyone know where they can still be had?

Thanks.

Really NO source for a new MX-500? Anyone have a recommendation for a replacement? I tried the URC 450 and really disliked it. Lousy button placement. Waahh. I'm sad if this is the end for the MX-500.

Give the RF30 a try, or perhaps the RF20.

Try and find a new MX-650?

Clean the contacts on your MX500?

How do you do that?

(I've never actually done this myself).

The MX650 is the closest, but still different. I have a used MX500 (works fine)...PM me if you are set on the MX500. I don't think you'll find new ones.

The MX-500 is no longer available from URC but brand new remotes are still sold with branding from other manufacturers. (http://www.shop.remoteshoppe.com/product.sc?categoryId=17&productId=146)

Actually, it is still available from URC. It's just that at the price, it's no longer the hot ticket it used to be. You can get an MX-350 for a few bucks more that adds RF and more macro capability.

So, yes you can buy an MX-500 as NXG NX-RM505. I bought one, got it yesterday and all is well. Exactly like the URC MX-500 except for the logo. I was even able to use the "Clone" function to copy my old remote to the new one. Excellent. Posted in case anyone else finds this information useful.

Thanks for sharing this, was in the same situation and not fond of the harmony style, found them on buy.com. Thanks again.

They stopped making the MX500 but not before switching the back light to one that is practically useless. You can find them out there; I bought one last year but quickly wished I hadn't due to the horrible back light they switched to. I now have a Harmony One and although it's a little expensive, it's waaaay better than the MX500. I still have both MX's in service.

Interesting comment. I found the backlight of my new MX500 to be as good or better than the 6 year old one that it replaced.

Does it light the screen or the device keys?

Jim,

Thanks for the info on the NXG-505/MX-500 clone. I've been looking for an MX-500 for months. Part of the LCD screen on my old MX-500 went out.

I ordered one from you on Tuesday, and got it today via FedEx. I'm going to order another one from you on Monday, as a backup. I wouldn't trade it for a Harmony One.

Ps:
Harmonys are for girls/women.
Man-up; Buy a URC.

Elkhunter. Thanks for the kudos. Glad you're happy with the remote. The MX500 is one of my all time favorites as well although I've fallen into the trap of now "needing" a color screen.

That's such a crock. I've got 2 mx500's and a Harmony One and it's like comparing a Nova to a Vette. (the mx500 is exactly like a Nova - 2 years of life then done, for the backlight anyway.)

do they still make the Nova:rolleyes: So you have had the "one" for a short time and your comparing its lifespan:confused:

I've had one for 6 years and the second for a year. They are both here. One has a crappy backlight that only lights the screen, not the device keys. The other has no backlight at all.
