Criterion is holding a voter-pole for their next selection on Blu-ray, KWADIAN and PICNIC AT HANGING ROCK are among the contenders. I voted for Picnic because I just watched the longer, gorgeous, Masters Of Cinema import of KWADIAN a little while back, and HANGING ROCK is also a haunting, visually stunning film, and Criterion's DVD was non-anamorphic.

Picnic for sure :)

I voted PICNIC as well. Wish I could've voted for RUSHMORE, TENENBAUMS, or DAYS OF HEAVEN!

Oh no, I'm opening a can of worms. I voted PICNIC... let's leave it at that!

There needs to be a Hard Boiled option. With that said none of these movies interest me what so ever. Flame away...

Picnic. I put into the comment that I don't want to see anything altered like The Last Emperor was and will not buy any Criterion until I read reviews or preview.

Picnic is a practically guaranteed release (they've already confirmed a DVD reissue, and it beggars belief that they would go to the trouble and not do a BD as well), so I put down Kwaidan, which is tailor-made for HD. (And Picnic is pretty middling stuff IMHO.)

IMO KWAIDAN is a sure thing too, the EUREKA!/Masters of Cinema import shames Criterion's DVD all to pieces with much better color and an extra 20 minutes. Really, all these titles probably have the green-light, it just a publicity stunt, but a funnish one.

Where is the BD of Hard Boiled? No that crappy release along with Stanglehold on PS3 doesn't count. Also would like to see The Killer!

Criterion doesn't have the rights for either of those movies - that's why they've been out of print for so long.

The Weinstein Company currently owns both Hard Boiled and The Killer, through their Dragon Dynasty label. Their DVD releases are... unimpressive, though it's not entirely their fault.

I wouldn't hold your breath on ever seeing a restored version of either film on BD.

I have no problem with HARD BOILED, but I think it may be a little "done to death" in terms of having been over-exposed. I'll open a can of worms by saying that Criterion has been kind of a haven for those of us who are tired of action-films, blockbusters, lame comedies and space-operas being vast % of what gets the HD treatment. Nobody's putting out stuff like THIRD MAN, 400 BLOWS, SEVENTH SEAL, & REPULSION other than Criterion, so I hope they keep going with the vintage art-house stuff.

The Weinstein DRAGON DYNASTY releases are, for the most part, botched jobs. Remixed audio inferior to the original; aspect ratios croppe; transfers given a slight "squeeze" to cover up the fact that they are cropped; Dub-titles and not subtitles; footage cut. With the John Woo films it is a sin because none of them have decent DVD releases. Every single one is royally F'd up in some way. The best way to see them is STILL on laserdisc and that is a crime.

I could go on, but I would just get angry. You wouldn't like me when I'm angry.

When it comes out it will be via Disney.

If nobody has figured this out yet, Criterion occasionally gets short-term contracts on big-name movies, and once those DVDs fall out-of-print, and their studios of origin retrieve and release their versions, they almost never come out via Criterion again.

Silence Of The Lambs, Robocop, Armageddon, Notorious... are not likely to be under their moniker again.

As a long time Tom Waits fan, I could only vote for 'Down by Law' - a beautifully mad film, be lovely to see that cinematography in BD resolution :)

I voted for Howard's End as well. It's an incredibly beautiful movie and should be on Blu-ray.
