View Full Version : Home theatre goals for TSU9800 or TSU9400, possible?

I realized when I had to leave 2 pages of instructions to a family member to be able to start and watch a movie in our HT that we needed a better solution.

I have been looking at information on the Philips Pronto tsu9800 and tsu9400 but I still have no idea of their actual functionality, and if it will work for me.

Here are my goals.

- I would like the Pronto to replace the remote to the projector (Sony VPL-VW60). Not sure if I would need to connect the RS-232 connection for 2-way, not sure if the projector even supports that. The projector does have a "remote" port, but its not a priority to get 2-way communication with the projector.

- I would like the Pronto to replace the remote to the Denon receiver (AVR 2308 currently, but I will be upgrading to a higher and new model.)

- I would like the Pronto to have 2-way communication with the Denon through RS-232 and show the Denon's readout (particularly volume) on the Pronto's LCD screen.

- I would like the Pronto to work with a laptop PC with Windows Media Center, and play through the AV receiver.

I also would like to have two basic macros

Macro 1 - Movies

Turn projector on (screen comes down by way of 12 volt trigger), turn receiver on, control Blu ray player....Turn everything off etc.

Macro 2 - Music

Turn receiver on, play music (from Windows MCE PC, radio, usb, or use receiver's ethernet/wifi connection).

Is all this possible? My main concern is the 2-way communication via RS-232 with the Denon receiver. I know Denon makes its own remote, and RF dongle, but I was hoping that that was their way of trying to sell you more of their products and that the receiver will work properly with the Philips Pronto series.

Also, as far as writing code in the software, would the above be a hard task? If so where can I learn more or practice with the software tools?

Thanks

I tried posting this as well at remote central

Hi Kirby, you can do what you want with a TSU-9400, 9600, or 9800, in combination with an RFX9600 serial extender. The RFX9600 serial extender will allow you to have two-way communication with the Denon via a serial cable. The RFX9600 also has relay outputs for triggering drape controls, but I am not particularly familiar with what is needed.

Please note that programming a Pronto TSU-9400, 9600 or 9800 is not for the faint of heart. The devices are intended for professional "custom installers" and not so much for the consumer. You need to be a patient and technically minded in that you need to use "ProntoScript" (a flavor of javascript) to implement the two-way communication.

You can get a sense of your potential undertaking by downloading the ProntoScipt Developers Guide from here:
