I've been trying to figure out if i have a legitimate problem or if I'm just extremely sensitive to the effects of an LCD. I've been asking in the LCD Display forum but i figured i would come and get your guys opinions due to the problem mostly lays with games.

I've been feeling like my display is blurring and ghosting too much. With Mass Effect, while on the deck of the Normandy, there is a section with lights going up and down the wall. When i spin the camera or move the character, the lights will take on strobe effect. This strobe effect can go to other games such as Gears Of War 2. When moving the camera around the background will seem to flicker when moving. With games like Fear 2 and Condemned 2, there is a very noticeable trail left behind objects when i look around.

I'm just curious if any of you have experience any problems like this. I'm gaming on a Samsung Ln40A550.

The easiest way to trouble shoot it is to hook it up to another TV and go to those same places, see what it looks like.

Im going to give that a shot, but the only other TV i can get to is a 32" SD CRT. I dont think that will be a good reference.

How do you have the 360 hooked up?(what cable)
Are you running the 360 at the monitors native resolution?
What, if any, settings do you have for colour level?
Does it happen outside of games? or other games?
and finaly
Mass effect has some wierd things as far as lights go if I remeber correctly. It's got a motion blur and "cinema" filter. Try turning those off.

1. HDMI
2. Xbox reference levels is Standard, HDMI Color is Auto.
3. Native 1080p. Just for testing purposes i tried 720p and same problems persisted but had screen tearing as well.
4. I dont think it does it outside of games. But nearly every game does it to an extent.
5. Ive turned them off and things dont change any.

As noted, Mass Effect is guilty of introducing its own bizarre video effects which make things look worse than they normally would, including "film grain" and "vignetting", so those definitely need to be disabled.

With that being said... I suspect you're very susceptible to LCD blur. I'm somewhat similar, in that for years people would tell me "This LCD montior is awesome!" and I'd watch them play games on it and be like "How can you play on that, everything's all smeary whenever you turn?!". I used an old 20" workhorse CRT monitor for quite some time, and while it started getting blurry as the capacitors dried up and the power supply aged, it was still night and day better than any LCD in terms of refresh. I only finally switched to an LCD a year or so ago, when it seemed like the technology had finally reached pixel response times of 5ms or less.

Perhaps i may just be extremely sensitive to motion blur. Although, when it comes to playing games on my laptop, i don't notice any problems.

All of the games you just listed use a motion-blur filter, in an effort to give the video a more "film-like" feel. That is more than likely what you are seeing.

What games, if any, don't use a motion blur?

Bump. Would like to know if anyone else is having any problems or hear some descriptions of some of their games for comparison.

Well Halo 3 I belive doesn't use motion blur, through if memory serves me it has bloom lighting...
COD4 doesn't most of the time (getting shot, does that qualify)
