Several years ago I used an online home theater program based on Japanese theater standards. This program permitted me to input variables like the projector’s resolution and the width of the screen and it would tell me whether I could see that resolution from a certain distance from the screen. Does anyone know where I can find this program? Thank you for considering my question.

This (http://www.carltonbale.com/home-theater/home-theater-calculator/) one has all that you will need.

One thing to note (which I don't know if this program takes into consideration) is that each digital technology will vary to some degree. For instance, LCOS tends to have the highest fill factor, which does alllow slightly closer viewing than say an LCD (without Smoothscreen).
This is a good starting point, but if you find you are at the close end in your calculation, you may want to get in the projector first, and try it for yourself before finalizing a screen order.
My 2 cents.
