BRAISKI 05-01-09, 05:20 PM Can't wait for this...
I only have the 1st one on DVD

Hopefully they will have a SE Box Set. But it looks like its only a regular trilogy...
Deviation 05-01-09, 05:27 PM The first two are already on Blu-ray and I imagine they'll re-use those releases for this trilogy box. I still haven't seen Rise of the Lycans... probably for the same reason I still haven't watched Caprica - I just don't feel the desire to watch a story they've already told.

1 & 2 on sale @ Fry's for $9.99 each+ ( I got 9 titles @ $10.72 each).
I just cringe when I see a BD "sale price" of $20 each...I guess I'm spoiled.

It's superior to both. It has all the action of second and the solid mythology of the first. Sheen and Nighy really go all out in this movie, their performances alone are worth the price, Rhona is good nothing more nothing less. This one also had a little more of the 'horror' element the other two lacked. It's also a good deal more violent.
I must admit sometimes you can tell the budget was an issues, some of the action sequences would have been jaw dropping, instead of great, if they had more money. The photography can be too dark sometimes, but the audio in theaters was fantastic.
Buy it.
sharkcohen 05-01-09, 06:19 PM Can't wait. Is this going to be a box set only, or will the third film be available individually? I already have the first 2 on HD DVD.
sharkcohen 05-01-09, 06:20 PM OK, now I'm excited:

The third film will be available individually. And after shadowrage's post, I have a sudden urge to watch it.

I know where I'm going after work!
shadowrage - That's good to hear, I thought it would be a bust based on what I knew and the lack of Kate but I may have to grab it.

Cool. I enjoyed the first two and after your post I am looking forward to watching this one (I bet the audio will be Niiiiicccceee!:p) Going to do the old blind buy.
Shaitan 05-01-09, 07:48 PM I was disappointed in the visuals of the 3rd movie. It... much like AVP 2, was way too dark. Horrible delivery imho. The movie itself seemed good. But way too dark.
BRAISKI 05-02-09, 12:03 AM Its a bit out of my budget to buy the Trilogy though :( but I will still might end up getting it.
Looking forward to when they ship mine.:)
I'm tempted to blind buy this because I liked the first two, but I'll wait for a couple reviews on the pq to come in first.
tutelary 05-02-09, 07:19 AM Really liked the 3rd movie, it gives the franchise a feeling of completion. While the effects do suffer here and there due to budgetary constraints, if you can forgive that, it's well acted with a good storyline. I venture to say story wise it is a better film than either of the previous ones.
As mentioned, it is a bit dark, this is both for tone and to hide the effects budget.
have all three on BD and they came out satisfactory when I just skipped through them quickly
I may get rid of them after I watch then though, not sure if they are keepers

Let me know if you end up selling them seperate as I am looking to pick up #3, but dont want to pay release day prices (if you dont sell all 3 as a set which I imagine you will probably do).:)

shadowrage 05-02-09, 06:38 PM As mentioned, it is a bit dark, this is both for tone and to hide the effects budget. The underlit scenes are my only issue with the movie. Hell Wolverine doesn't have a problem showing its shoddy CGI, and that movie had a real budget.
I may get rid of them after I watch then though, not sure if they are keepers If you want to get rid of all 3 I might be interested...I really just want the box for all 3.:o

That's a good idea. As much as I like the movie I wouldn't recommend it as a blind buy at regular prices unless you really really liked the first 2(those people should have already seen it though).
BallsDeepX 05-13-09, 10:28 PM Anyone know if the trilogy is using seperate cases inside a slipcover or is it one case for all 3 movies?
I'm tempted to blind buy this because I liked the first two, but I'll wait for a couple reviews on the pq to come in first.
I'd rate the PQ about a Tier 2.75-3.0. Some may give it higher marks but anything that dark is a tough one for me to rate real high. Now, I wasn't looking for flaws, but didn't see any stand out either. I'm getting to the point where I don't notice a film unless I think it's a 0 or high tier 1, or a 4/5. Anything in between, I just watch the movie and enjoy it for what it is. On my 60" screen, it looked good. On 130" it might not have enough detail to suit some.
As for the story, I was a little disappointed. Not that it wasn't a good movie, it's just that there wasn't much new to learn. Backstory is usually a little more spontaneous. Perhaps I watched the first two too many times, but I saw about all of it coming. Sounds above like I'm not the only one. And I say this being a huge fan of the Underworld series. Stick Kate in a tight leather outfit and put her in this film, and it also would rate a 5* with me! Underworld without Kate... Just ain't the same.
Great acting again in this. Good story, albeit one you already know. This is a backstory that I think should have gone back another generation. We just know too much about these peoples early days.
I'll wait to buy on this set. I've rented the first two several times already, and just rented the new one (saw yesterday). I'd say this. For a person who's never seen any of these, they'd make a great blind buy.
How is the audio?
I have only a 5.1 surround, but I thought the sound in the movie was terrific. I was very pleased with the center channel that was crisp and understandable without being overpowering. A lot of dialog in these films is done with heavy accent and there's no trouble understanding people here. Their voices are not covered up with foreground noise and effects. The actors don't mumble either!
The Lycans roaring sent the cat flaming up the stairs. So I guess he thought the sound was good!
I'd give the sound a higher mark than the video.

Can any of you who bought the trilogy answer this questions please.
Don Borvio 05-14-09, 12:47 AM Can any of you who bought the trilogy answer this questions please.
I'll answer, though I haven't bought it. I saw it at Wal-Mart, it's three standard size blu-ray cases in a slipbox.

I can't imagine this movie being just as good or even better than the first two. I haven't seen this movie and don't intend to. Underworld without Kate Beckinsale?? No thank you!

Wow. I'm surprised to see your comment about the dialogue being crisp and understandable. I really found the rest of the soundtrack completely overpowered the dialogue.
I did think the rest of the soundtrack was excellent. LFE was prevelant throughout and the surrounds were great as well.
I'm curious to what others thought.
I agree on the PQ - not impressed at all.

That's what I like to hear

That's easy to fix. Just turn down the center channel. ;)
I prefer to hear and understand the dialog vs too much effects sound. Just personal preference I guess.
xradman 05-14-09, 10:46 AM Are the Blu-rays for the first two movies the same as prior standalone BD releases?
Are the Blu-rays for the first two movies the same as prior standalone BD releases?
One could hope for a new encode of the second film, which had a lot of problems (http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showpost.php?p=13008576&postcount=1444), being an early (one of the first, I believe) BD release...
Doubt it, though.

Can anyone answer this question?
Morpheo 05-15-09, 11:37 AM Can anyone answer this question?
Yes, 1 and 2 are the same... (and 3 is also the same as the standalone btw) If you have already 1 and 2, there's no reason to buy the trilogy set.
BRAISKI 06-10-09, 11:09 PM There seems to be 2 versions
