Hi everyone,

I recently got a 46v4100 and have it hooked up to my Vip722 DVR (from Dish network).

I enabled the 'External recording' feature of the DVR but even then so, when I go to the TVGOS setup, it only lists Antenna and Cable (without Cable box) as option.

The DVR is connected via HDMI cable...

Could anyone help me with this? Thanks!

First of all, you're using it wrong. The only way to get guide info to the Sony's TVGOS is through an antenna or cable connection.

But the question is, why do you need the TVGOS if your DVR already has a guide?

If you really want the TVGOS, since you don't have cable, you could try hooking up an indoor antenna to try to pull in the over-the-air host station. Then choose "antenna" in the setup option.

From the TVGOS website I saw screenshots that showed Dish/DirecTV as setup options...I didn't realize it was TV specific...

I would prefer to use the Sony remote for all purposes...just having the TVGOS is another added benefit...

OTA wouldn't get me the guide for the satellite channels, correct or could I use that as well?

You can get the satellite channels OTA, but you'll probably have to go into the "channel editor" in the guide menu and turn them "on" (you'll have to enter in a channel number first, in order to turn them on - you can just use "0" for each channel number). Then they should fill in with the guide data eventually (I'm assuming you can get all those channels with the newer, digital TVGOS that your Sony uses - I've only had experience with the soon-to-be-gone analog version, and you could always do it with that).

Also, there's no guarantee that you're going to get every last channel that you get from Dish in the guide. You should get all of the more well-known, popular, national ones, though. Just not ones like those public access channels.

You won't be able to go to the channels in the TVGOS and use that to change the channels in the Dish tuner, though. You'll still have to do that through the Dish tuner itself. But if that Sony remote is universal, you should be able to program it to work the Dish tuner. So, although you can probably use the remote to control all, you *may* have to switch inputs on it (or maybe not, depending on the remote and what you actually want it to do).

As far as the TVGOS/Macrovision site talking about Direct and Dish working with it, only the Panasonic EH55 and EH75 HDD/DVD recorders that get the analog guide will work with those services (I have both recorders, and I use them with Dish).
