Currently have a Runco vx4000d projector projecting onto 120inch
Stewart screen - this was already in place in the house (in UK) we recently moved into. System installed in 2004.

I have no experience of home cinema and would appreciate advice on :

Likely reliability issues & costs of repair as projector is over 5 years old -any feedback on costs of repair in UK.

Options for suitable replacement - can the "Runco " picture quality/brightness be delivered now in much lower cost DLP projectors ?

Thanks for any advice on this

I wasn't clear...are you looking to compare betweening keeping your Runco and possible future repairs vs. upgrading?

On the latter, there are many newer projectors that are much cheaper than what you likely would have paid back then...all which trounce the Runco (as you would expect from something 5 years more advanced).

What is your setup?

Thanks for responding.

I'm looking at both likely cost of repairs of the 5 year old Runco and cost to replace with similar or improved picture/ brightness/definition.

My set up is based in the UK and is a 2500 kaleidescape player and server,
a satellite receiver in a dedicated darkened room. Screen is 10 ft Stewart grey screen.

I understand. Well you are out of warranty, but, I don't know how repairs for Runco go in the UK. In the USA, they have certain rates to fix them. You know who would be a good contact on the boards is Brian Carskadon. Though he is not a tech, he could probably guide you the best approach.

I think ultimately it depends on how much it is going to cost you to repair it.

From a technology standpoint, there are definitely improvements...
