So I have been using URC MX-500 remotes for about 6 years and now I'm wondering if I could learn to love a Harmony. Anyone make that transition happily? If so, can you recommend a particular model?

View Full Version : Switching to Harmony? jayw 05-02-09, 09:04 PM So I have been using URC MX-500 remotes for about 6 years and now I'm wondering if I could learn to love a Harmony. Anyone make that transition happily? If so, can you recommend a particular model? Jay W ThomasV555 05-02-09, 09:40 PM If you're MX500 was programmed really well.. then no. If you were always dealing with toggles and used the default layout, then the Harmony will seem like a miracle.. Depends on your expertise with the remote. I still have my original MX500 running my parent's HT setup.. That thing has been thrown, sat on, covered with food.. it's a trooper and it is a very well laid out remote with Hard Macros on the bottom. jayw 05-03-09, 07:04 PM It's really the best remote I have ever used. Someone PM'ed me an alternate source of the MX-500 from a different rebranding vendor. I'm hesitant to list it here since it was a private message. I'll leave that to him if he wants to list it. I'm kind of nervous that it won't clone from the old one though. I also can't help but to think that in the past 6 years SOMETHING better hasn't come along. If the iPod touch thing EVER moves from vapor-rumor-ware to an actual product, I might consider that. Geez, enough about that already. Put or or shut up, you know? Jay W Update: Jim from RemoteShoppe.com added an entry now with their OEM version of the MX-500. Interestingly, they also have versions of the 650 and 850 too. Thanks, Jim. |
