View Full Version : 360 Ethernet port failure?

It appears that the ethernet port on my 360 is starting to fail.

It will drop connection randomly. A test on the 360 shows it as having lost LOCAL connectivity, thus it's not an XBox Live/interweb issue.

I've tried:

-Different cable (known to work with a PC in the same rack)
-Different switch port (known to work with a PC in the same rack)
-Restarting the Xbox
-Unplugging the XBox

Occasionally unplugging the XBox will fix it immediately. Other times I just wait a while and then it will work again, for a time.

I found a couple other reports on the forum of network ports failing, but not a lot. Has anybody ever gotten one repaired? If so, where and how much?

Thanks.

Check the 360 ethernet port for bent pins.

Thanks for the suggestion, but I'm realtively sure it's not a phyisical pin/connector issue. The connectivity problem isn't related to touching the connector. It's working fine for some time and then simply loses connectivity without having been physically touched.

Ditto on restoreed connectivity... when it comes back it's not necessarily because I've touched the cable....

I had mine go out on one of my Elites. Used it one day.....I think a storm came through that night and the next day it couldn't go online (or access my PC media shares). I tested the cable with my laptop and it was fine so I knew the nic on the 360 must have taken a hit during the storm. I bought the wireless adapter and used that until I swapped out the console for a new one (Returned/Replaced) where I bought it.

Have you had any electrical storms pass through? Power outage? Power surge? Mine I'm pretty sure got hit across the ethernet cable and only damaged the ethenet port as all other functions were fine. Again..I swapped mine out....so not sure how much repair cost would be.
