My front projection experience is very limited at the moment but I have a friend who bought an Epson 1080UB last fall and turned his projector on yesterday and says he's getting a circular green dot towards the upper middle part of the screen. He says it's very noticable on dark scenes but not so much so on bright scenes. He said he can makeout objects withing the green dot so obviously it's not a solidly lit green dot. The "dot" is about 2-3" in diameter on a 92" screen.

He says there nothing visible on the lens and that it's not any type of light reflecting on the screen for somewhere else.

Any ideas?

Sounds like a dust blob. I have a few on my Epson 720. Search the forum for blob to see various threads of interest.

Most likely a dust blob...but how bright is it? In other words, if it is super bright it could be pixel related (though not likely that large). If a more subtle look, it is most likely a dust blob.

It fairly bright from what I'm told but you can see content within the pixel. Plus with it being round it's likely not a pixel and you stated.

After doing a search on dust blob this sound like what he has. Is this something he can attempt to clean himself? I've seen responses where people got replacements and another response who said it's not hard to do a disassemble to fix. If he sends it back he'll likely get a refurb and since his projector is fairly new and in good condition I think he'd like to avoid sending his back and potentially end up with other problems in return (he's only got about 60 + hours on his).

Thanks!

Yeah if you can see content (and it isn't just solid green) then it is not a pixel (which I didn't suspect anyways based on the size).
