Ok...the time has come to upgrade. here is my dilemma...the now out of production Sony VW60 "Black Pearl" or the Sanyo Z3000.

I was leaning towards the Sanyo, but prices are coming down QUICK for the Sony. I'm replacing an older Sony VW10 projector. Here is my situation...

- I have a Stewart 100" Grayhawk screen I would still like to use
- Non-dedicated room (living room) with ambient light. The current projector does ok during the day...at night, it's awesome
- Living is mostly dark...brown and with dark brown trim (old home - 1915 bungalow)
- Mostly kids shows and movies...no real sports
- I REALLY enjoyed my old Sony projector
- Projector will be on a motorized projector lift, which needs to be triggered by the projector (current projector does this). For the Sanyo to do this, I would need to get about $100 of electronics to do this.
- Because of projector lift width limitations, projectors that are wider that 16.5" are automatically excluded (epson 6500UB, panny ae3000, etc.)
- Will use Mac-based Plex for HTPC and an Oppo BD83 Blu-Ray player

Here are my questions..

- With the Sanyo interpolation features, is this something I would miss?
- The specs on my original projector show 1000 ANSI lumens...the vw60 is rated @ 900...is this a problem?
- Deep color support...is this something required? I know current content doesn't have this today
- With the specs/features of my OPPO, will one projector be better than the other?

Thanks guys!

For some reason, it posted the message without the content. I have since corrected it.

Thanks!

I'd probably go the Sony without a second thought (can't back that up though :)). You might want to consider the HW10, Sony's "entry level" 1080p SXRD.

I'd say most of us here would disable it as we find the result unacceptable (soap opera effect).

- The specs on my original projector show 1000 ANSI lumens...the vw60 is rated @ 900...is this a problem?

Even if the difference is 10%, you'd be unlikely to notice it, especially considering the new projector will almost certainly be much brighter since it's got a new lamp.

- Deep color support...is this something required? I know current content doesn't have this today

With Blu-ray not supporting it, nor cable or Sat, I don't expect anything significant to use it in the forseable future.

On a whole, the SXRD technology is better than LCD. But there are pros and cons to each you mention. Have you viewed either of these before?

Relative to the Z3000 or the VW60, no.

However, I do have my trusty VPL-VW10HT which, as you know, is LCD.

I've read plenty that the Z3000 is very "digital" (snappy and vibrant) and that the LCoS type of displays are very "smooth and film"-like.

I would like to lean towards authenticity of the content, which is predominantly film with a splash of animation for the kids.

At this point, I'm sure that either one of the displays would supersede my current projector - the question is with what?...the eye popping effect of LCDs or the smooth, warm feeling of film that LCoS display types are known for. I would chose the later.

Thanks!

While I was considering a HW10 as well, the $100 I would need to spend to augment it's lack of trigger support, I would much rather apply that money towards a projector or pocket the dough.

I anticipate prices for the VW60 dropping quick since it is no longer in production.

Also, any thoughts on refurbed projectors??

Yeah if you can get a VW60 for $100 more than an HW10 (both new) get the VW60.
