Hello Friends,

Please accept my apologies if this is not the correct place for this post as it is my first time here.

I bought a Canon ZR70 video camera and I recorder about an hours worth of tape of my nephews first baseball game. I wanted to download the film to my computer to share with family and friends by "saving it" on my computer in hopefully a wmp file or similar so I can burn it to dvd or email it.

I do have the fireware cable to run from my camera to the back of my computer, I just need some guidance as to what hopefully "free" software to use. I did some searching before coming here at microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/moviemaker/getstarted/downloadvideo.mspx and found this link, but let me say this. I downloaded the video, or thought I did using Windows Movie Maker 2 and it appeared in the window (using Windows XP Pro) as if everything was going ok, then, it took me through the steps to edit it, and then to burn the dvd, which I did. When I went back to play the dvd, nothing happened, there was nothing there. Then I went to my search to find the video, and nothing came up. So, I thought I saved it and it was not there, what happened?

Any help would be great as I would like to record more of his games and share them with family across the country. Please help, please?

are you saying that the dvd itself is blank? you should be able to see where a wide band has been burned on the bottom side of the disc.

fwiw, the access light on the front of the dvd burner should have been blinking hard during the burning process...

did the camcorder come with any software?

Thats what happened, all looked good as if it burned, but when I put it back into my computer, no dvd software was able to read it.

It did come with video solutions software but that did nothing for me at all. I do not see a step-by-step instruction on doing what I am asking. I thought I did everything right, but not.

Windows XP does not come with any MPEG2 decoder or encoder. You will need 3rd party software to do that. What I generally do is using Windows Movie Maker to download video from DV tape and edit the clips then create a AVI or WMV movie within Movie Maker. From there, you need to find a 3rd party software to convert them into DVD format (MPEG2 VOB). There will be no legally free software for you to do that because MPEG2 is not free (that's why Windows doesn't have it in the first place).
