Hello. Just to let the mods know I did do a search for this problem but was unable to come up with a prior discussion. If I missed it, by all means please direct me to the proper discussion.

My brother in law just gave me his 42 inch LCD LG tv because "the menu is all messed up" and I guess the TV is pretty much unwatchable. Sorry, I couldn't get much more than that out of him.

The TV is 3 years old and I guess a friend of his had the same issue and it was a $500 fix. He says it's out of warranty so he just bought a new tv and gave me this one.

In trying to get a better handle on what this tv is doing (or not doing), I tried the following. I haven't been able to get an HD box yet so I hooked up the cable "out" from my current cable box to the cable "in" on the back of the tv. I also tried hooking up the cable directly from the wall to the cable "in" on the back of the tv. Either way, my "assumption" was that I should at least be able to get a watchable cable signal though it would not be HD.

The result of doing this is that I get nothing. When I plug the tv in, I can hear a click and a sound like something is spinning up. There is a red light on, on the front of the tv. I let it sit like this for a few minutes then hit the power button on the remote. The red light will change from red to a bluish white and flash for a few seconds. Then stay on steady. About this time the screen back light will come on but the screen is otherwise blank.

The last time the tv was used, it had the cable card installed so my assumption was that I would need to change the input signal to "cable" or something similiar. Problem is, no matter what buttons I push on the remote OR on the tv itself, nothing comes up on the screen. No menue, no guide, no input choice, no nothing. It's like the tv is plugged in with absolutely nothing else connected to it.

Am I doing something wrong or is this indicative of a problem with the tv.

Thanks

You'd be better off posting this in the LCD Flat Panel section - http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/forumdisplay.php?f=166

Good luck with it.
