First of all, thanks for all the info you guys provided, my purchasing decision was solid and I'm loving every minute of the new camera.

Here's my question...most of the video I will be doing will be automotive related, by way of suction mounts on the exterior of the car, or interior mounting. Obviously the on-camera microphone isn't going to work when outside the car due to wind issues, and the internal microphone won't pick up all the range of the vehicles I'm going to be recording. The microphone input is a mini-mic jack, and I'm not sure what equipment to buy to make sure I'm recording engine/exhaust noise and not the wind.

Ideally I would mic the car close to the exhaust tips or near the firewall using gaffers tape, but what microphone or methods would be advised?

I'm not looking to buy a standalone DAT recording system...completely out of the question. Please keep answers in scope! Thanks in advance.

Out of curiousity, what mount are you going to be using for your internal shots with the HFS10? I ask cause I am looking for an internal mount for my Jeep Offroading trails with my HFS10

I am using this mount and it is solid. I have been using it with a HF100, and it works out really well.

Yep, thats the same one I have. Gripper 115. The only gripe I have is that it does transmit a lot of vibration to the camera.

I would have to assume most suction cup car mounts are going to do that same thing, is that right?

I'm assuming so, but I think I might get a little creative and try to mitigate the shock. On a race car, vibration is going to be impossible to eliminate but I might take one of those gel shoe insoles and cut out an area to fit under the camera and the mount. In theory, that should dampen the shock quite a bit. Again, thats in theory...we'll see how it works in practice ;)
