I've a problem with my VP30, well I think it's the VP30, it might be the Pioneer 508XD.
I manage to get the 'frame geometry' test pattern correct, but then the picture starts to drift gradually, both horizontally and vertically, this happens in all resolutions and frame rates.
I'm worried it might cause screen burn if there's no picture in part of the screen for a while, it means I have to set the underscan really high, just in case, which kind of defeats the object of having the scaler in the first place.

I would try bypassing the VP. Run a DVD test disc pattern and see if it too drifts. If so, it is likely the set (which I'd bet is the case). If not, however, it might be a VP problem (unlikely).

It sounds like the problem that you are having is a 'screen orbiter'. This is built into the display to minimize differential aging of the phosphors, burn-in, by keeping the image moving (rather than completely static). You should be able to turn off this feature on the display.

I'm so embarrassed, you're right, it must have been on by default, I've never even bothered with that bit of the menu.

Big thanks for that.
