I just got a new HDTV. I currently have a Mediacom supplied DCT6412, which has component out (but no HDMI) connected to the component in on the TV. It says "HDTV capable" on the box. I don't have any specific HD package or anything, but I get ~20-30 HD channels in the 700-800 channel numbers. I know that Mediacom offers HD boxes - is this the HD box? Or is there another one? If so, why might I want it? What advantage would it offer?

Thanks in advance.

The DCT 6412 is an HD DVR. Component video is fully capable of carrying HDTV. A different HD box may have HDMI output, which is also HD capable, but unlikely to offer a lot more of interest, unless Mediacom offers all its lineup in digital (as opposed to basic and standard cable channels in analog).
