Does G1 has enough ports to connect the home theater system , dvd player, cable box (with component) and vcr .

If I need to stream movies from my pc to G1 what do I need to buy to do that.

You didn't give nearly enough information to answer your questions.

What kind of connections do all your various components have?

How do you plan to connect your PC to your TV?

You can download the owners manual - you'll be able to see if it has enough of the inputs that you need.

I have mine hooked up to a xbox 360 (HDMI), ps3 (HDMI), DVD player (component), wii (component) and a tivo (s-video), and still have an extra composite input open for a video ipod (or other portable video). A G10 only has 2 component inputs so that could be a limitation, but if you have a home theater receiver with enough component inputs you could always hook everything to that and then you'd only need to feed the receiver output to the TV via component.

As for the PC, I have a HTPC running ubuntu going through a HDMI port (DVI to HDMI) and it looks fabulous, although I haven't used it much as I've only had the TV a week and am trying to avoid static images for the first couple of hundred hours. The G10 has a PC port too, but I think it's resolution is limited.

So why not just look at the specs of the TV?! Or download the manual from the Panasonic website?!
It will tell you exactly how many connections and what kind they are.

Cable box has component and hdmi , dvd has component. Vcr and old camcorder uses composite .
I will be hooking all my speakers and subs to this receiver yamaha htr5760.

As for streaming movies from my media center pc or I need to buy an extender to do that.

I'm considering getting the new 54" G10 but worried about the lack of 7.1 surround from the digital audio out. Apparently it only does 5.1. I know, I know, "who needs 7.1?" but that's the system I have, so if I can get a tv set to output 7.1, I might as well, right?

My questions: Is this common on ALL sets? Is there a way around it?

Well if you just go from the output of the source i.e. cable box etc. you should be fine correct? You probably have multiple sources and only one input on receiver I'd assume.

Right. That's probably true for blu ray/dvd too.

BUT: I use an over the air antenna, so I'll be using the TV's built-in tuner. This might be a non-issue because it's very possible that there aren't any broadcasts that do 7.1 surround anyway.
This will take a bit of research on my part and I just don't have the time right now :)

I really don't think 7.1 via over-the-air is going to happen anytime soon.
You'll probably have another TV when that happens.
