In the days of vinyl I owned 2 if not 3 distinctly different LPs, and there have to be more today if you include the used disk market.

My recollection is that there was a highly regard vinyl remastering done in Japan in the mid 80s.

I prefer a good digital version...like the DSD layer of the SACD.

It doesn't totally satisfy you, after a couple of hours you need to listen some more.

There is a quad version which has a slightly different mix. By that I mean it is different even listening in stereo (which is all I listen to it in). Some extra/different sound effects here and there.

I have quite a few copies of this album, (i.e. MFSL, US, UK, Quad and 30th Aniversary re-issue) and my personal favorite is the UK copy. YMMV of course.

Arguably the Mobile Fidelity UHQR version is one of the most sought after. There is a currently sealed one on e-bay asking for over $1K - craziness.

I'm kind of weird about Pink Floyd recordings. While I own both vinyl and CD versions, being as I'm old enough, I remember going to their concerts before they were all that. To state the obvious, the concerts were always different and what I tend to look for on the web are recordings, sometimes bootleg, of their live performances. For example, you can listen and download various of their concerts from the KingBiscuit site. They're not perfect, the bitrate could be better, but at least for me, they're real. I'm still looking around for a copy of their performance at Carnegie Hall that I attended back in the early 70's. There I was waiting for Atom Heart Mother and what I heard was DSOTM before it make its way to vinyl. Nice concert.

It's almost always best to catch bands before they have broken out huge, and almost always best to catch them live. PF is no exception. Listen to an early live recording of 'Embryo' or 'Careful with that Axe' to hear them when they are still hungry.

It's why opening acts these days usually transport me more than the 'main event'. Case in point is the St. Vincent concert I just left at Webster Hall in NYC
