I have moved and set up a new theater that doesn't have enough room for my G70 CRT projector. I'd like to buy a used interim projector until I'm ready to build version 2 of the theater that will have more room. Ideally, I'd like to keep it around $500 since it will be an "interim" solution. Screen size is 110" and the throw is about 14'.
Any suggestions on good used projectors?
Thanks in advance!

I second this deal. Just saw it today and am very tempted to buy one. I really dont need another projector though.

Wow! That's a great deal at TD! I'm coming up on three years with my HD70 and I'm still quite pleased with it.

This would be replacing a 8" CRT projector (Sony G70). How much better or worse would the HD70's picture be at this size? Even though the G70 technically couldn't handle 1080p, I was always very pleased with its picture. Is it possible the HD70 would be just as good?
Thanks.

Coming from CRT you will notice that digital PJs just can't match the black levels you are used to. However, if you can adjust, you can get a pretty good picture with a good screen.
Here are some examples from my setup with a gray screen at 92":

Wow, that's a good picture. I was looking to buy a HD72 from tigerdirect, but the limited warranty has put me off

For a little more, I'd get the HD72 on that site. A nice step up.

Kind of depends on how well your crt was setup. Regardless, a dlp unit will give you nice ansi contrast, perfect sharpness and uniformity (and no more convergence tweaking) and it's smaller size is much easier to install. :) Really, with the exception of on/off contrast you should be happy. The high ansi contrast of dlp really makes the image pop.
If you are not rainbow-sensitive you should be fine with a 4x speed color wheel, otherwise you should look for at least a 5x speed wheel.
A couple Sharp DT-510's went for around $570 on ebay last week.

If you get the HD72, get a warranty that covers lamps. If I remember correctly, the HD72 likes to run through lamps rather quickly and prematurely.
