We have a wall mounted 19" Westinghouse LCD in the Kitchen & are not pleased with the sound volume out of it. The TV's volume is usually maxed out & have difficulty hearing it at times. It is fed by a DirecTV HD Receiver. (non DVR).

I'd like to improve the audio volume. I figure that the best way to go about this is is to buy a 2 channel receiver or amp & a couple of wall mounted or in-ceiling speakers

The DirecTV box is on a wall mounted shelf above the TV. The receiver (or amp) would likely be stacked on top of the DirecTV box, so it would have to be remote controllable (otherwise you'd have to use a step stool to reach it - it's above a kitchen island).

If I were to get a receiver for this setup, I'd like to get one with a decent AM tuner section, but we really have no need for extras other than a left & right audio input for the DirecTV source. As far as speakers are concerned, I guess that I'd be looking for a pair with decent speech reproduction.

Since this is for a kitchen, I'm not looking for anything too fancy - maybe $300-$350 max.

Thanks for any ideas

Mark

For your needs... this receiver should be adequate.

A Henry Kloss "Tivoli" radio, or you could just get two powered speakers.
