I have a Monster HDP-2400 power conditioner that I was using for my plasma setup. My HT is almost done now and I was wondering if I should stick with the Monster conditioner or go with a APC H15?

What do you guys recommend?

Also should I get some kind of voltage stabilizer?

I just bought an APC SUA1500. It is also a battery backup and is about the same price as the H15.

It works like a champ. The battery kicks in every few hours in my Appt because the voltage fluctuates like crazy. Keeps everything running great. I have my amp, sub and projector plugged into it and it is showing a 3/5 for load.

Some will say it is not meant for home theater, but I have had no problems and it works flawlessly.

Thanks..

Anyone else have any suggestions on which one I should go with?

Greetings Chris.
I've been using the APC H-15 for my plasma, and the APC J-15 ups for my projector and balance of my hT equipment.
The J-15 has returned my investment in pj bulbs saved.

I look into those..

What about a voltage stabilizer? Do I need one or is a conditioner enough?

APC SUA 1000 here. Works like a charm. Only have the PJ on it--nothing else. Just llok for something with a pure sine wave--at least that is what I was told.

FremontRich recommended an awesome UPS!

It is true online as well as pure sine wave and will provide you with the best power there is. If you are just using it for your projector it will be more than enough. And you would never have to worry as it would be getting pure sine wave 120V 60Hz power at all times because it is continuously converting to battery and running it from there.

The second best I think is one of the SUA... it is not true online, but it is pure sine wave. I think the H/J/S 15 from APC are over marketed and overpriced...

Should I just stick with my Monster hdp2400 then since the APC is overpriced..? Or should I upgrade?

Do whatever the poster you like the most did. The answer here is do what I did and I wouldn`t have done did it if I didn`t think it was right and worth the cost.

But both the APC SUA 1000 & 1500 only have a Sine Wave NOT a Pure Sine Wave. You have to spend a whole lot more money for that.

Is there really any major benefit to a Pure Sine Wave for Projectors? Doubt it. Isn't it more for Audio?

How pure is pure? How dirty is not pure? A sine wave comes in. It will have noise on it and it won't be constant voltage, but it should be a 60 cycle sine wave. If it strips most of the noise off and strips the overoltage to ground, the wave should be pretty pure. Using an audio amp and feeding it a pure sine wave 60 cycle tone, you should really get a pure 60 cycle wave out but it will have some harmonics.

Don't breed. Regenerate.

I've owned my TrippLite for nearly 4 years and my projectors and lamps have never given me any problems. These double conversion UPS are used in critical systems where even a slightest loss of utility power is not acceptable. :D

None of these are double conversion UPS. The key to the superiority of double conversion UPSs is that they provide very clean 120V AC power through the conversion of DC from the battery to AC. There is no DIRECT link to the utility power AC and there is no transfer time as systems or critical items are never without power.

I have a very elaborate HT room with all sorts of special wiring to lower noise yada yada. Not really relevant to the discussion. Just to let all know I take electrical power and wiring for HT very very seriously. My house has a standby self starting 20KW LP generator and our heat is LP. I had the choice of allowing my HT to be powered by the generator if outside grid power was lost. No way. The generator power is dirty. I wired things with a separate AV panel for the room that is not bussed to the standby generator. When power fails, am emergency light comes on in the seating area. Its a black pit and I and any others in the room need to be able to see and exit. The only thing one needs is a way to power the projector fan(s) to protect bulbs or until recently my FP CRT tubes. I don't care how clean the UPS is yad yada, all that is needed is for it to be strong enough to let me shut the projector down and to let the projector cool itself.t. Nothing big, elaborate, or expensive. Almost anything will work. Once the projector is shut off, the fans really don't draw very much and by 3 minutes the cool down will be complete and the bulb not shortened in life span. Are you guys looking to do anything else?

You could run the generator ahead of a Tripp Lite double conversion UPS. The power out of the Tripp Lite would be absolutely clean.

Out of curiosity. How many of you chain your Standard UPS with a HT power conditioner?

Meaning UPS plugged into the wall and power conditioner plugged into UPS. Equipment plugged into power conditioner.

The idea is, power is provided in the event of a blackout\brownout and its cleaned by the conditioner. Plus provides an extra layer of defense against major surges.

I thought about doing that but wasn't sure if that was recommended..

Thats what I heard too, but I have never heard exactly why?

Possibly because they are afraid you might overload one of the UPS plugs or something?
