So I have been doing my homework for one of my customers, trying to decide which direction to take him on his projector (ultra high end theater) and was trying to decide between Runco(22XI), and DPI (Titan 250). After talking with quite a few people in the know (2 different sources) that Runco was for sale for around 5 million bucks?? Keep in mind that Planer purchased them for 35million not long ago at all. After looking into it more, Planer was a penny stock and was bleeding money and trying to sell off anything it could to stay alive. They are however at a $1.22 right now

Soo what have you all heard? I have been burned by vidikron, and a few others in the past when this type thing happened. DPI seems like they have been around forever.

Thanks for your input!
Brandon

Many many businesses are down. Particulary in the auto, building, high end restaurant, and AV industries. No one is buying businesses now and many businesses are bleeding cash. It wouldn`t surprise me if most high end company owners would like to sell.

I have no clue whether Runco is up for sale. But if it is, I wouldn`t be surprised if Sam Runco bought it back for a great price and brought his magic back. He was itching to do something a year or so back. But I think the economy would not be right for a big gamble right now. We may be recovering somewhat but unemployment will get a loss worse for maybe 9 more months. Ain`t the time to be in the luxury goods industry. Will most high end AV companies hang on? Sure. They really have no choice. Just down size, hang on until things get better. They will. But then they will need to innovate and that costs money and there will be some lag.

Can we get enough AVS Forum members together and each throw in a couple bucks to buy Runco?

Ha, can you imagine what a comedic mess that would be? We can't decide on anything amongst ourselves - running the company would turn into one giant argument about anything and everything, with nothing productive being accomplished in the process.

But I'll throw a couple bucks in just for the entertainment value :)

Lots of people own shares in companies. Your voice depends on the share you own. Most companies in the AV industry are privately owned. Many are owned by investor groups who now wish they never made the investment. Most companies up ffor sale have no buyer interest. If its making lots of money, its most often not up for sale.

We could vote on decisions using the "polls" feature here on the forum, haha.

If its up for sale then hope Sam Runco buys it back. I always worry when a big investment company buys a small company & then dilutes the brand & the product. I feel that sometimes these big investment companies are too busy trying to make a quick buck rather than innovating. Hopefully we don't lose any more small innovative companies to large investment firms who do not understand good audio & video.
